Inside the room, Yates and Jacqueline acted normal at first. Then Jacqueline said, "I can't do this anymore. I'm going crazy, Yates. Please, just take me away from here."
Yates stroked her head fondly but didn't answer. Instead, he cupped the back of her head and pressed his lips to hers.
"Mmph..."
They kissed passionately until Jacqueline was breathless, and only then did Yates pull away.
With her arms wrapped around his neck, Jacqueline asked in a raspy voice, "Tell me the truth. Have you slept with Melody?"
Yates gave her waist a gentle squeeze. A smirk played on his lips, his voice low and husky. "You're the only one I love. Why would I touch her? If she wasn't so stupid and rich, I never would have bothered. And besides, with the people in her circle, who knows what kind of diseases she might have. Don't worry. It's always been you."
Their movements were practiced, familiar. This was clearly not the first time.
Outside, a collective wave of outrage washed over the four women listening in.
Stupid and rich? What the hell!
Yates's words hit Melody like a physical blow.
What was happening?
It was as if she was snapping out of a long dream. She pressed her lips tight, her eyes glued to the phone screen. Betrayed by her boyfriend and her friend, who were now calling her an idiot, was more than she could bear.
"Aren't they cousins? How could they..." Wendy trailed off, but everyone knew what she meant. Their relationship was anything but familial.
