Abigail's smile deepened as she spoke, not forgetting to boast.
"Clark is an only child. When Marjorie marries him, she won't have to deal with any sisters-in-law. It's a simple family."
At her words, West suddenly scoffed.
He pushed Grace's wheelchair a little to the side, putting some distance between them and Abigail.
A mocking smile he couldn't suppress played on his lips. "Oh, well then, I wish you the best of luck in becoming the mother-in-law to a wealthy heir."
Though his tone was light, Abigail understood the jab.
It was a well-known fact that Clark's parents looked down on Marjorie, saying she wasn't good enough for their son. That's precisely why she and Clark still weren't married.
Damn West, using that to throw shade at her.
Before Abigail could react, West was already pushing Grace toward the entrance of the complex.
"Hey, this is Crystal Springs! It's a high-end community. You must have the wrong place!"
After a moment of shock, Abigail saw the Holts heading into the complex and shouted after them.
The houses in Crystal Springs were far from cheap. How could the Holt family possibly afford one?
Seeing that no one was paying her any mind, Abigail grabbed Marjorie and hurried to catch up.
She never missed an opportunity to belittle the Holt family.
Abigail grabbed hold of Grace's wheelchair.
"Grace, are you visiting relatives?" she asked.
Before Grace could answer, Janina shot back with a deadpan expression.
"See that row of the most luxurious villas at the very back? That's our house. My parents live there."
Now, both Abigail and Marjorie were stunned.
They lived in an apartment just under a thousand square feet, and it had cost them a fortune even before renovations.
Crystal Springs had a row of villas, separate from the apartment buildings. There were only ten in the entire complex, and they had originally sold for millions.
Did that mean the Holts were living in a multi-million-dollar villa?
Marjorie finally pushed back against her mother.
"Mom, don't spread rumors without proof. I heard Janina's adoptive family was very wealthy. Maybe her adoptive parents bought it for her?"
Abigail shot her daughter a disdainful look. "Do you really think that's possible? Buying a villa for someone you're not even related to by blood?"
As if afraid her daughter might be right, she quickly waved her hand dismissively.
"Let's not talk about them. Come on, let's go home and make dinner."
…
Back home, West got busy preparing dinner.
Before long, a large spread of dishes was on the table.
Tasting West's cooking, Janina was full of praise. Just what you'd expect from a hotel chef—the food was absolutely delicious.
Janina asked, "Brother West, with skills like these, you could totally open your own place."
