She had been running around all day and was completely exhausted.
Janina had just stepped into the breakroom when Yvonne followed her in.
"Miss Holt," Yvonne greeted her with a syrupy smile.
Janina ignored her. With people like this, distance was the best policy.
She took a disposable cup from the cabinet and filled it with hot water.
Yvonne's eyes, like a viper's, slithered over Janina's body. She noticed that pregnancy hadn't made Janina swollen or haggard. In fact, due to the hormones, her skin was smoother and more radiant, giving her a soft glow.
Meanwhile, Yvonne had been pulling all-nighters for the competition, and the dark circles under her eyes were obvious. If not for the thick layer of foundation, the pimples and blemishes on her face would be visible.
What made Yvonne even more jealous were Janina's long, slender, fair hands. The same hands that had designed a piece so stunning it had earned unanimous praise from the judges. While her own work had won an award, the judges' comments were clearly a tier below Janina's. As a professional, she knew Janina's design skills surpassed her own.
They were both women, yet Janina could effortlessly create something breathtaking, while she...
At that thought, Yvonne's eyes darkened.
She walked over, completely unfazed by Janina's dismissiveness, and took a disposable cup from the cabinet.
As she filled it with water, her gaze fell on Janina's pregnant belly.
After finishing one cup, Janina was still thirsty. She filled another cup halfway with hot water and went to add some cold, completely ignoring Yvonne's presence.
Just then, Yvonne filled her cup with boiling water and glanced toward Janina. She slowly approached, her eyes fixed downward. Pretending to stumble, she lurched toward Janina. The cup of scalding water in her hand flew forward.
If it hit her in the face, she'd be scarred for life. If it hit her stomach, it could put the baby in real danger.
