West smiled and nodded, offering a polite response. "It's doing alright."
Marjorie clutched her handbag tighter.
"My parents and I had dinner at The Tasting Room recently. The food was excellent. It's great that business is going so well. The menu is fantastic; I'm sure you'll only become more successful."
She opened her mouth as if to say more, but her strained expression faltered.
The Tasting Room had only recently become popular, and she hadn't known West was the owner. She and Clark had gone there for dinner one night and had to wait an hour for a table.
She had to admit, the food was absolutely incredible.
Towards the end of their meal, she saw West at the front counter and assumed he was one of the chefs.
She had even snuck away from Clark to ask a waiter about him.
After asking three different staff members, they all confirmed that West was the owner of The Tasting Room.
At that moment, she was overcome with a mix of emotions she couldn't quite describe.
Of course, West had no idea what Marjorie was thinking. He simply offered a polite, "Thank you."
West's reserved and distant demeanor left Marjorie feeling at a loss.
Who would have thought that they were once a deeply devoted couple?
"Well, I'll let you get back to your walk. I… I have to be somewhere," Marjorie said, turning to leave, as if afraid West might say something else.
Leaning back on the bench, Janina watched Marjorie's retreating figure and smiled at West. "Brother West, it seems like she's not over you."
"It doesn't matter to me," West said, his face calm.
Grace, who had also sat down, chimed in with disapproval. "She just can't stand to see us doing well. She used to think West wasn't good enough for her, and now that he's successful, she can't handle it."
Janina had heard from West about his history with Marjorie. They had been childhood sweethearts and had a very strong relationship.
Janina turned to look at him, noticing a hint of smug satisfaction in his expression. She decided to press him.
"Clark has nothing on you except for his family name. You're a thousand times better than him now. What if Marjorie came back to you? Would you take her back?"
West frowned. "I'm not a recycling bin. Besides, I'm not that naive kid anymore. I'm a mature adult now, not some toy to be picked up and discarded at will."
Janina pursed her lips.
She was worried that West might fall for a master manipulator, someone who could win a man over with just a few tears.
"But what if she broke up with Clark, came to you crying and apologizing, and swore she would never marry anyone but you?"
West's smile vanished, and his face grew serious.
"People change. After she changed, I changed too. I could understand her choices back then, but I can never forgive her for them. She was already seeing Clark while we were still together. There's no going back for us. Ever."
