Ethan and Grace followed, getting into the back seat one after the other.
They closed the doors, their gazes fixed forward the entire time.
They had no intention of greeting Marjorie.
As if she had just noticed them, Marjorie hurried over to the driver's side window. "West, what a coincidence," she said, peering through the glass.
West had intended to pretend he hadn't seen her, but she had greeted him first.
He had no choice, so he gave her a curt nod in acknowledgment.
Then he fastened his seatbelt and prepared to start the car.
Marjorie was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered, bending down to flash a sweet smile.
"West, is this your new car?"
West gave a simple "Mmm" and quickly rolled up the window, shutting her out.
Marjorie's smile froze on her face as she stood there, dumbfounded.
She watched the car drive further and further away, only moving out of the way when a car behind her honked.
West bought a car!
She recognized the brand. The base price had to be over sixty thousand dollars.
Sixty thousand dollars!
Her mind automatically processed the number.
How long had The Tasting Room been open?
Three months? Four months?
She suddenly remembered what she had once told her friends.
"West? That chef? How much could he possibly make? His entire monthly salary probably wouldn't even cover one of my skincare sets. A single cash gift from Clark is more than he makes in a year."
And now, where was Clark?
The man who had promised to take her traveling around the world hadn't responded to her messages in ages.
And West…
West was driving a new car worth over forty thousand dollars.
"Well, he bought a car. His restaurant is doing so well, he must have made a lot of money. It's not surprising."
Marjorie grabbed a napkin and wiped her mouth, changing the subject. "I saw Janina is due soon. Should we prepare some kind of gift? After all, our families used to be on good terms."
Abigail was silent for a moment before replying, "We'll see. There's no rush."
What she wanted to say was that the Holt family probably wouldn't care for her gift.
She was now willing to try to mend fences with the Holts.
But Ethan and Grace, despite their gentle appearance, were proud. Their guard was up.
A heavy silence fell over the living room.
After a while, Abigail broke it. "Go get some rest. I'll do the dishes."
Marjorie dragged her heavy body to her bedroom.
Her mind was now completely consumed with thoughts of West.
Marjorie numbly opened a drawer and pulled out a photo album from the very back. Inside was a large group photo.
One of the people in the picture was West.
