"I just want to know how the baby is doing. Why won't you tell me? You have to at least tell me the due date!" Faced with Janina's coldness, Julius was starting to lose his patience.
"What right do you have? I have four brothers and three best friends to protect me. Do I really need your fake concern here?" Janina scoffed and started to walk away.
"Miss Holt," Yvonne called out, stopping her.
Yvonne suddenly took a step forward, a victorious smile playing on her lips.
"Miss Holt, Julius and I are getting married soon."
She paused deliberately, her eyes sweeping over Janina's pregnant belly. "If you're feeling up to it, you're welcome to attend our wedding."
It was framed as an invitation, but every word oozed condescension and was meant to provoke.
Yvonne was still inexplicably confident that Janina would be jealous.
In Janina's mind, Julius was a bag of trash she couldn't get away from fast enough.
A sarcastic smile touched Janina's lips, but her eyes were dark and cold.
"You two are quite a match. But you'd better keep your man on a leash. The next time he bothers me like this, I'll report him to the police for harassment."
The mention of the police made Yvonne flinch, subconsciously recalling the last time Janina had called them.
A dark glint flashed in her eyes, and her fists clenched tightly.
A flicker of panic crossed Julius's face, but it was too late to stop her.
He never intended for Janina to find out about this.
It was just a formality, not a real marriage.
He hurriedly tried to explain to Janina, "Janina, it's not like that, I…"
"Julius, you promised me…" Before Julius could finish, Yvonne looked at him, her eyes welling with tears, her expression one of profound hurt.
Julius's words caught in his throat.
Any explanation he had was now stuck.
Though she said it jokingly, Wendy was half-serious. She desperately wanted to escape Clayborne City.
Her mother had been asking her for money again.
Mrs. Clifford always claimed she was 'borrowing' it, but she was constantly taking money from Wendy.
She knew her mother was giving it all to her brother, Baron.
Janina didn't know what Wendy was thinking and replied casually, "I think that's a great idea. Maybe one day I really will leave Clayborne City and find somewhere nice to live."
As soon as she finished speaking, Janina's phone rang. It was an unknown number.
She answered, and Julius's voice came through the receiver.
"Janina, don't hang up. I need to talk to you."
The smile vanished from Janina's face. She didn't want to say another word to him. She immediately hung up and blocked the number.
