CHAPTER 126

DAMON’S POV

I got a call a few hours ago that Gabrielle was in the hospital.

The caller didn’t go into details about her condition but honestly, I didn’t need to hear anything else.

She needed me.

That was all I heard.

So I walked out of a multimilliondollar deal without a second thought. If they couldn’t understand that my family came first, then they were never worth doing business with.

I hated hospitals.

They reminded me too much of a past I was desperate to forget. They also reminded me how much my mother suffered, and how she was always admitted after she passed out from Father’s beating.

All I could see when I looked at the building was blood.

Yet, I stepped in for her without hesitation.

Christ, something had to be wrong with me. Maybe I needed to get a bed while I was here, and have the doctors check me too.

A nurse led me straight to her room.

Gabrielle was lying on the bed, her closed and her expression peaceful.

My chest tightened at the sight.

S

Susan was sitting beside her bed and she stood when I walked in, her hands in front of her, her expression sad.

I turned back to Gabrielle. What happened to her?

She fainted at breakfast,Susan replied. They’re running tests, but she’s stable.

Gabrielle didn’t have any history of illness. As far as I knew, she was perfectly healthy. So what the hell could have brought her down?

I stepped closer to the bed and brushed my thumb lightly over her knuckles. Her skin felt cool, but not cold.

When did it happen?I asked.

About some minutes after breakfast,Susan said. She complained of dizziness first. Then she justcollapsed.

Did she eat?

Yes, sir.

Give us some space,I said without even looking at her. And tell a nurse, or a doctoranyone you find first that they better come in here and give me a good explanation.

Susan nodded slowly. I’ll do that now,

sir.

We all knew this wasn’t in her job description and I appreciated the fact that she stayed with my wife until I came.

I sat beside Gabrielle and rested my hand on her temple. The sight of her unmoving on a hospital bed was hitting harder than I expected.

The last person I’d seen in this condition was my little sister, and she did not make it.

My hand on her temple trembled. I can’t lose you too.

For a moment, I thought she would respond to me, but she just lay there, unmoving

I was still staring at her when the door opened behind me.

A middleaged woman in glasses and a long white coat stepped inside.

Good morning, Mr. Gravari, she said. I apologize for the delay. We were running a few tests to determine the cause.

I stood as she approached the bed. Will my wife be fine?

She gave a small professional nod. Definitely, sir. Your wife experienced a stressinduced syncope episode.

Relief flooded my chest so hard I nearly stopped breathing. Go on.

The doctor nodded. From what we gathered, there are signs of dehydration and her cortisol levels are elevated, which suggests prolonged stress. Alcohol in her system likely worsened the fluctuation.

My jaw tightened. You’re telling me she fainted from stress?

She handed a document over. Severe emotional and physical strain, lack of sleep, and mild dehydration can destabilize blood pressure. She complained of a headache before collapsing, which aligns with the spike and sudden drop we recorded.

I looked down at Gabrielle. She looked peaceful and completely unaware of the chaos she had caused inside my chest.

Something ached inside me.

I wanted her to remain that way: peaceful and stressfree. I needed to be a better husband and I needed to keep her safe.

Is that all?I asked.

She’ll wake up soon, the doctor added. We’re giving her fluids and monitoring her vitals. All other tests are clear. She just needs a lot of rest.

I had to make sure that she didn’t stress about anything henceforth.

Gabrielle stirred and her fingers twitched. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open, disoriented for a second.

A breath I didn’t realize I was holding left me slowly.

I sat down and reached out to remove some hair strands from her face. Hey, look at me.

She turned to me and I saw recognition flicker in her eyes. Damon

Something sharp struck across my chest. How do you feel?

Her voice came out in a whisper. Sotired.

Last night had definitely affected her more than she realized.

Before I go, I’d like to add something, the doctor said, hesitantly. If you both could also reduce thebedroom activities too, that would help her recovery a lot.

I didn’t realize that the doctor was still standing in the room until she spoke. And now, I wished I had dismissed her sooner.

But she had a point.

Even after I made her come on tongue, I had fingered her in the back of my limo, bringing her to another orgasm again before she fell asleep.

It was too much for one night, especially after she was emotionally and physically stressed.

CHAPTER 8

Gabrielle’s face burned a bright shade of red and my fingers itched to trace it. Oh.

Hell, I needed to keep my hands off her and here she was making it harder for me.

I forced myself to look away. I’ll keep that in mind, Doctor.

She gave a polite nod before stepping out.

The room fell silent after the door closed.

Gabrielle shifted slightly and winced.
