CHAPTER TWENTY–SIX
GABRIELLE’S POV
“Pull your dress down,” Damon said, tucking the handkerchief in his pocket with my underwear.
I sat up, my body limp and the tension gone from my shoulders. “Is… is that all?”
“I’m very close to my limits, Gabrielle,” he said, his voice tight and edged with restraint. “Pull your dress down.”
I did as he said.
“You’ve done that before, though?” he asked, his eyes still on everywhere but me.
“No, not really,” I said. “It was always solo. Jared and I—“
“Thank you for reminding me I could still kill him for ever touching you,” Damon cut in, his tone calm but the edge in it made my stomach twist.
–
His jaw flexed, and he finally looked at me – that slow, dangerous lift of his eyes that made my pulse trip over itself.
“Damon…” I whispered, unsure whether to be scared or flattered.
He leaned closer, voice low. “Don’t say his name around me again. I don’t want to picture anyone else’s hands on you.”
I swallowed hard, the sound loud in the silence between us. “He’s in the past.”
“Good,” he said, his voice a dark hum. “Keep him there.”
Then he leaned back against the seat, his eyes fixed out the tinted window again. The air in the limo was still thick, but this time it wasn’t from lust.
It was something else. Something possessive, consuming, and quietly terrifying.
“You’ll go alone,” he finally spoke. “I’ll just use the other jet.”
I frowned. “Why?”
“I need space before I do something you’ll regret,” he said, his voice calm but strained, the kind of restraint that made my pulse
stutter.
I blinked. “Something I’ll regret?”
His eyes dragged over my face and thighs slowly. “You think I’m proud of how easily you undo me?”
He leaned closer, his breath brushing my cheek. “If I stay near you, I’ll forget every line I swore I wouldn’t cross. Yet.”
The car stopped.
The driver didn’t knock on the partition, as if he knew better than to interrupt whatever this was between us.
Damon’s hand rested on my thigh lightly, but firm enough to remind me of his control.
“Go,” he said softly. “And don’t call that name Jared again. Especially after I just touched you.”
My chest tightened and my face flushed at the memory. I could still feel his fingers inside me and his tongue on my clit.
He opened the door and stepped out. The cool night air rushed in, but it did nothing to calm the heat still pulsing under my skin.
I sat frozen in the limo, staring at him. His expression was unreadable now, the emotion from earlier buried under that quiet, ruthless composure he wore like armor.
He glanced at me once more, eyes dark and heavy. “You’ll leave first,” he said. “Don’t try to stop me.”

“Why not?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.
“Because if you do,” he murmured, stepping closer until the edge of the door framed him like a shadow, “I won’t let you go alone. And that will make me very late for a meeting I have to be at.”
He shut the door gently, signaling the driver before I could find words.
The car rolled forward, and I turned, watching through the tinted glass as Damon stood there with his hands in his pockets, watching the car until it disappeared into the curve of the road.
When I finally entered the jet, the silence was unbearable.
My reflection in the mirror looked wrecked. My lipstick was slightly smudged, my hair undone, and my eyes dazed. I pressed my fingers to my lips, remembering the way he’d looked at me.
I hated how much sense that made.
Yeah, he had a point.
If he had come with me, I wouldn’t have been able to keep my hands to myself either.
