CHAPTER THIRTY
GABRIELLE’S POV
They led me to a table in a private lounge where three women were already sitting.
One of them was Anya–Lila’s mother.
Her eyes lifted the moment I stepped in, and a slow smile spread across her face.
“Well,” she said, her voice honeyed. “The infamous Gabrielle.”
I sat down, my fingers still wrapped around my glass. “Infamous? I didn’t realize I’d earned a title already.”
“You did the moment Damon brought you here,” one of the other women said, crossing her legs. Her nails were painted black, matching the stone on her ring. “You’re one of us, love. Or soon to be, if you prefer. I’m Monique, the third ex–wife.”
Anya dropped her glass. “We’ve met before so no more introductions necessary. I was the first, Naomi the second, Monique was the third,” she turned to her left. “And the fourth one is Malika who got my daughter a giant monster called a teddy bear.”
Malika rolled her eyes. “It was my first time in this country and I heard the kids love them here. What was I supposed to buy her? Estates?”
Her thick Arabian accent softened the edge in her tone, turning her words into something melodic despite the tension.
“Of course you wouldn’t know what to buy a child,” Anya muttered, swirling her drink. “You were too busy spending her father’s money on your causes.”
Malika gasped. “There are children your daughter’s age and younger dying in Gaza, and in Congo and Sudan too. I had to help in any way I could with those donations.”
Naomi nodded. “Yet, your jewelry room is bigger than your bedroom. And it’s just for jewelry alone. Makes us wonder if you really donated.”
Cassie burst into a fit of laughter. She was drunk alright and most likely the fun one.
“Think whatever you want,” Malika rolled her eyes.
Anya turned to me. “Then that’s Cassie, the fifth ex–wife.”
“We’ve met before,” Cassie slurred.
“And how’s Lila? I came here straight from my cruise,” Anya asked.
I shrugged. “She’s fine. She’s in the care of Susan. And maybe you wouldn’t be asking me if you spent time with your daughter.”
“So because I’m a mum I can’t have fun?” She asked, her brows furrowed. “It was her father’s turn to have her soon anyway. And since you’re his wife it’s your responsibility to look after his child.”
The audacity of this woman.
“You’re lucky I already like Lila,” I said. “I’d have dumped her on someone else too but I don’t want to be like you.”
Naomi smiled as her gaze lingered on me longer than necessary. “She has fire. I like her.”
“She’s a pretty woman and you’re bisexual,” Anya said. “There’s no surprise how much you really like her.”
The women laughed.
It was somewhat nice to see women from different backgrounds all bonding in their weird ways. Under different circumstances, maybe it would have been less weird.

Monique leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. “Don’t get too comfortable playing the mummy role to Lila, Gabrielle. Damon changes women the way most men change suits. And when he’s done, he leaves you with neither closure nor warning.”
Malika nodded. “Yes. You might think we’re here to fight you or be hostile. All we’re doing is looking out for you. Just enjoy the gifts and the sex, Gabrielle. That’s all he’s good for.”
Cassie burst into another laughing fit.
I took her glass away from her and downed the contents.
“Hey, I wasn’t done with that,” she frowned.
“You’ve had too much, Cassie,” Naomi said before turning to me. “They’re right. Damon might be a piece of shit but in the sheets he’s unmatched.”
Anya chuckled. “I should know. I was all over him every day. There’s living proof of that.”
They all laughed again.
I set my glass down and leaned back in my chair, letting their words settle. “Noted. Even though he’s what you say he is, there’s no denying he has great taste in women.”
Naomi rolled her eyes playfully. “You all heard that right? She flirted first.”
“Ahem,” someone said behind me.
We turned and a staff member was there.
“I was sent to get you, Mrs Gravari,” he said, looking at me.
I turned back to the women and gave them a smile. “Thank you for talking to me, ladies.”
“Just enjoy the dick and have fun,” Monique called after me.
A small smile formed on my lips.
I followed the staff out of the lounge and to the table where Damon was sitting with an old woman and an even older man.
“This is my wife, Gabrielle,” he introduced me.
I stretched out my hand for a handshake. “Nice to meet you.”
The old man stared at me for a while longer than necessary, ignoring my outstretched hand. The woman shook me instead. 1
“Nice to meet you, Gabrielle,” she said. “I’m Martha and this is my fiancé, John.”
