ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD (Gabrielle and Damon) novel Chapter 92

CHAPTER NINETY TWO

DAMON’S POV

I stepped into the club and the smell of smoke, alcohol, and something far worse hit me immediately.

Neon lights bounced off the polished floors, glinting off expensive watches and champagne glasses. Some of the strippers were dressed, some weren’t.

A fight broke out near the bara man threw a punch, and another retaliated with a bottle. Then laughter and screams collided into one as they cheered on the fight.

I walked past them to the private area where the real danger was.

Rocco Bellini.

The guards opened the door and I stepped into a room reserved for men who never waited in lines and never answered to anyone. Some of the most powerful Italian mafia dons.

At the center sat Rocco Bellini.

He leaned back in his chair, his suit jacket open, a gold chain visible against his chest. His expression was amused, like he’d been expecting me long before I arrived.

He was even fatter than I remembered.

Damon Gravari,he said, spreading his arms. You took your time.

I stopped a few steps away, my expression flat. I didn’t come to entertain you.

The room turned quiet as everyone directed their attention to us.

Rocco’s eyes narrowed for a few seconds before he burst into a fit of laughter. His men followed suit but I was already bored.

You’re too serious, Gravari,he said, blowing out smoke from his mouth. You should learn to loosen up sometimes. Your father is dead now you can be happy.

My fists curled at my side but I said nothing.

He drank from his cup in one go and the halfnaked girl beside him refilled it without question. I heard you want to stop doing business with me. That’s why I came to your city. Is that true?

Yes. It’s true,I said.

He shook his head slowly, a smile on his lips. If you want to renegotiate our agreement I’m open to that. What do you want?

I exhaled. I don’t want to renegotiate. I want out.

The room exploded into an uproar.

Rocco tapped on the edge of the seat with his lionhead cane. Adesso basta.

The room was quiet down and he turned back to me. I apologize for that. My boys do not know who’s standing in the midst of them. Have a seat.

I prefer standing,I responded calmly. I wouldn’t want to get too comfortable.

His eyes gleamed. I see you have your father’s brain, giovane. But you do not have his greed. Tell me why you want to cut ties with us.

The unpleasant memories snuck into my head but I pushed them back into their cage and locked the door.

I do not want to become my father nor replace him in your circle,I answered. I want a different life for myself.

Murmurs filled the room again.

Rocco raised a brow. Why wouldn’t you want to replace him. He was a great man but you’re even greater. Why do you think I would let you go?

The agreement is outdated,I said to the anger of the men in the room. You signed with my father and guess what? He’s dead.

He finished his drink and the girl refilled it again before he spoke. We can have a conversation about this and fix the part of the agreement you have an issue with. That’s all I can offer.

I didn’t bother with giving it a thought. No.

Rocco sat upright slowly, the amusement draining from his face. The laughter didn’t return this time. The tension in the room turned tight.

You remember when you came to me asking for my help, right?he asked.

I remember,I replied.

You were young,he continued, tapping his cane once against the floor. You were angry and desperate. You begged.

A few men shifted in their seats, waiting for a reaction.

I did what was necessary,I said. Just like I’m doing now.

Rocco smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

No. What you’re doing now is forgetting how debts work.He gestured around the room. This agreement is not paper, Damon. It’s blood. It’s loyalty. It’s silence.

I’ve paid my dues,I said. More than once.

Yes,he agreed calmly. And that’s why I respect you. You’re a more intelligent and straightforward man than your father was. You’re twice the man he was and that is why I cannot let you go.

My jaw tightened. I paid my dues the day you helped me. You took more than we bargained for and I’ve lived in regret ever since.

Rocco relit his cigarette and took two puffs before responding.

Look, I’ve been doing business with your father before you were even born. If you want to cut off the agreement you need to give me a better replacement.

I took a step closer and one of his men pulled out his gun as if to scare me. I’d seen worse shit than they could do to me. And I didn’t feel fear for nothing except a certain brunette’s touch.

I turned to him, my irritation growing with each second. You should put that down if you want to live until tomorrow.

The man hesitated and I walked towards him until the gun was pressing on my chest. I towered over him, my hand behind my back and eyes on his.

Go on.

The gun shook in his hand. Slowly, he put it down and I caught his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed.

Rocco’s laugh snapped the tension. You see why I like you, boy? You come into my den unharmed and without security guards and you threaten my boy?

I walked back to the middle of the room and stood before him. What replacement would you

want?

Now you’re talking,he said, smiling and revealing his brown and golden teeth. I heard of a certain pair of brown eyes that somehow managed to capture your heart.

Gabrielle.

Fuck, no.

No one has captured my heart,I denied. I couldn’t give a fuck about her even if I wanted to. But you’re not taking her.

He raised a brow. Why? I don’t believe any pussy is that good.

The room burst into a fit of laughter and something in me wanted to protect my wife fiercely. But showing that I cared about her was the first step to her death.

No,I responded. I don’t share my toys until I’m done with them.

He hummed, watching my expression intently. I heard you have a daughter and I don’t discriminate. I believe women are stronger in some ways. Give the girl to me. I’ll raise her into an even finer weapon than you and you have your freedom.

The thought of Lila going through half of what I did made my chest lock up. I felt the pressure of something heavy slamming into a door that had been welded shut for years.

You won’t touch my child,I said.

Rocco tilted his head, studying me. See? You do care.

I care about ownership,I replied flatly. And you’re reaching for something that was never part of the deal

He smiled, slow and satisfied. Everything is part of the deal.

My jaw tightened. I walked into this room alone and unarmed because I trusted you to be smart.

His smile thinned.

If you think threatening my daughter will bend me,I continued, you don’t know me at all, Rocco.Rocco’s fingers tightened around his cane. What do I get, then?he asked.

I met his eyes, unblinking. Anything else.

He smiled and leaned back in his chair. Remember the night I freed you from your father?

I wished I didn’t.

But I did.

You were through with him but didn’t have the balls to save yourself yet,he continued. You stayed long enough and the torture finally turned into something that you looked forward to.

I didn’t respond.

Even though your father was a monster he did turn you into the man you are now,he said, drinking from his cup. You don’t feel and that makes you even more ruthless. Unless things have changed and you have two weak spots now.

He was referring to Lila and Gabrielle. I still managed to keep myself cool even though the thought of losing them both felt unacceptable.

If you’re becoming weak, maybe I need to take the causes away,he finished.

I exhaled and unclenched my fist. That would never happen.

He nodded. Good. That means you stay. Maybe you should consider getting your latest toy pregnant and produce a son to take
