Madeline:
“Elara is not your daughter,” I hissed at Elgin, staring straight at him.
Then I started marching toward him.
The others immediately drew their weapons while my body began to transition.
The moment my bones began to crack and shift, panic spread through the crowd.
My wolf emerged with a savage snarl that made several warriors stumble back.
For a second, it looked as if they were questioning whether they even wanted to fight this war.
The air filled with cracking bones, growls, howls, and screams.
Elgin transformed alongside the others, his body shifting into a massive dark wolf, but he was nothing compared to mine.
I stood taller and broader than anyone on the battlefield.
For a moment, I worried my size would make me an easy target.
Even someone with terrible aim could hit me with how large I was.
Around us, more warriors and Alphas shifted, preparing themselves for the fight.
The second Elgin lunged at me, I slammed into him head-on.
My claws ripped through his shoulder before he could sink his teeth into me.
Blood burst from the wound as his body crashed against the ground.
Dirt scattered everywhere while a howl tore from his throat.
I did not let him recover.
I attacked again.
In that moment, rage consumed me completely.
Every memory came rushing back.
Him betraying me in the name of marriage.
Walking away when I needed him most.
Insulting my daughter. Rejecting me.
Trying to force himself on me while pretending he cared.
The fury inside me exploded.
I needed to bring him down.
I needed to fucking kill him.
I tore into him again, sinking my teeth into his neck before hurling him across the ground.
His body rolled violently before crashing into a tree.
He struggled back onto his feet, breathing hard.
Behind me, two more Alphas burst into their wolf forms, Ron and Byron.
We had spent the entire day running and fighting for our lives.
We were so consumed by survival that none of us realized night had fallen.
Darkness slowly swallowed the woods while screams echoed through the trees.
Warriors charged at us from every direction, only for Ron to tear straight through the first line.
Byron lunged at another warrior before the man could even fire his weapon.
Then an arrow sliced through the air.
