Elgin:
It felt like my pride had been shattered.
The way Madeline had beaten me left me humiliated.
Fine, I knew she was a Grey Wolf.
She was powerful.
She was meant to be powerful.
But at the very least, I should have been able to land one hit on her.
Something to prove that I could defend myself against her.
But that never happened.
And it broke something inside me.
Then anger tore through me, and I decided I was going to punish her.
And what better way to do that?
My eyes shifted toward the cabin, and I realized that was where she had definitely hidden her children.
My daughter.
While she remained busy fighting the other monsters and warriors outside, I quietly slipped away and headed toward the cabin.
A few warriors followed behind me just in case.
We had already seen Lady Eugenia enter the cabin earlier.
If she transformed, she could still cause trouble.
However, the moment I broke down the door and stepped inside, I realized she was simply standing there with Bodhi behind her.
Bodhi stood beside Elara, holding her hand while she cried.
I could only imagine what those two must have felt hearing the screams and chaos from outside.
“Hey, it’s me. Daddy,” I said to Elara.
Truthfully, I was only taking her back because I wanted to punish Madeline.
That had been my plan from the beginning.
I already had two daughters.
Elara was nothing more than a responsibility to me because she carried my blood.
And in the end, she was someone I could use for one final strike against Madeline.
The moment Lady Eugenia saw me moving toward the children, she grabbed Bodhi’s hand and pulled him behind her.
That was when I realized where her loyalty truly lay.
Her affection, her care, her protectiveness, all of it was for the child who belonged to her son.
At that moment, she was not thinking about anyone else. She was thinking like Bodhi’s grandmother.
Elara stood there helplessly, staring at us.
“No! She’s my sister!” Bodhi screamed, hitting Lady Eugenia with her tiny fists.
However, Lady Eugenia only looked me straight in the eye before crouching down to pick Bodhi up.
“In war, everyone suffers losses,” she said calmly. “Whether you win or lose, you take whatever you can and run with it.”
