Elgin:
After that, Elara didn't complain even once.
We'd scared her just enough to make sure she stayed in line.
Although I didn't like it, I could tell my mother enjoyed it.
The sad part was that she would have killed for Hailey and Hannah.
But when it came to Elara, she was never my mother's favorite.
The reason was Madeline.
My mother didn't see Elara as my daughter. She only saw her as Madeline's daughter.
In a way, it made sense. Madeline had hurt her son more times than I could count.
Whenever I craved love, Madeline gave me the middle finger.
So I understood why my mother never liked her.
The moment I stepped into the house, I was met by Silver.
She stood in my way with her arms crossed, her eyes narrowed at Elara, who was clinging to me as if she feared the monster would come back and take her too.
"Not right now," I told Silver, silently asking her not to say anything in front of Elara.
I'd managed to calm Elara down only after a great deal of thought and planning.
"No. Why is she here?" Silver demanded.
However, she didn't understand. She moved in front of me again, spreading her arms to block my path.
"You know why she's here," I replied, giving her a stern look so I wouldn't have to explain everything again.
"No, I really don't know why she's here. She has no business coming back here. This isn't her home."
Well, Silver being Silver, she immediately started arguing with me.
That was what I disliked about her and what she failed to understand. She challenged every decision I made.
"Enough!" I finally snapped at her, and I watched Silver's body jerk.
Her father immediately rushed out of the living room, making it clear that his daughter wasn't alone.
"Did you just yell at my daughter?" he demanded.
I dismissed him with a wave of my hand.
"Silver, either you're on my side right now, or I'll take your refusal to listen to me as a sign that this relationship is over," I warned.
I caught her father scoffing.
"You still think there's anything left between you two?"
As soon as he said that, Silver quickly motioned for him to stop.
The shock on her father's face was impossible to miss.
It was about time he realized that his daughter wasn't going to leave me for him.
