Elgin:
After hearing all of that, I had summoned my royal beta.
Mathew had worked with Silver and her father, so I had my doubts about whether his loyalty still lay with them.
Kaylee was still sitting across from me.
I hadn't answered her proposal yet.
But the truth was that I was seriously considering it.
However, I would have to let her know that there would always be another woman in my life.
I would keep Kaylee by my side on a surface level because she was an intelligent woman and because I wanted to get back at Silver.
To be honest, that was the whole reason I was considering marrying Kaylee.
Because I knew that if I married her, Silver would burn with jealousy.
She would cry her eyes out.
And that desire satisfied something inside me.
After what she had done to me, the only thing that felt right was making her cry and burn from the inside out.
"Yes, Your Highness. You called for me?"
Mathew walked in, giving me a slight bow of his head.
"We need to talk," I said.
It seemed as though Mathew already knew what this was about because he slowly clasped his hands in front of his abdomen and nodded respectfully.
He pulled out a chair and sat between us.
There was only one person missing from the table.
My dear Rosetta.
Now Rosetta would take the place of not only Madeline, but Silver as well.
I would have children with her.
She would be the real woman in my heart.
"Do you know this man, Mathew?"
I decided to show him a cropped photo of the black-mustached man first.
Mathew studied the picture and narrowed his eyes.
I wanted honesty and loyalty from him, but I was afraid.
What if he was still working for Silver and her father?
"Yeah," Mathew replied casually. "This is the man who used to come over when you weren't around."
As soon as he spoke, both Kaylee and I shifted in our seats.
Our eyes narrowed on Mathew.
"I don't know what she had going on with him, but she would always ask me to take the children away, along with everyone else, so she could be alone with him. They would talk about different things."
Mathew continued explaining.
"His name is Robert."
At that moment, I realized that maybe Mathew wasn't involved after all.
"Actually—"
Honestly, it wasn't a bad arrangement.
Once, she had been forbidden to me because she was my best friend's wife.
If he were still here, he never would have allowed me to be with her.
In a strange way, it gave me a sense of satisfaction.
Everyone else had fallen, and I was the only Alpha from our circle still standing.
So why not?
If I had the opportunity to be with both women, I wasn't going to turn it down.
But my happiness was short-lived.
Mathew returned with his laptop and placed it in front of us.
Then he glanced at both Kaylee and me before pressing play.
The footage showed Silver returning home in tears on the day Madeline was abducted and Lord William died.
Or rather, it was a confession.
A recording of Silver confessing to her father that she had killed Lord William.
"Your Highness, I don't want to say this, but if you present this to everyone, they'll strip Lord John of his position. He knew his daughter had killed a council leader, yet he kept quiet and used his status to protect her while saying nothing. That's a very serious crime."
Once he finished speaking, I realized I could truly trust him.
At the same time, I felt relieved.
Thanks to him, both Lord John and Silver would finally be held accountable.
