I had found out a few things in the last few minutes.

My mom was Lady Eugenia.

She was the Luna of a very prestigious pack.

The woman who had helped her was Maria, an outcasted seer. Now I could tell why.

"So, just like you promised, I want to be part of a pack again. And not just as a pack member, but as a Luna," Maria said, straightening her posture and broadening her shoulders as if she were about to be rewarded for the good she had done.

Lady Eugenia kept staring at her before she suddenly burst into maniacal laughter.

"Look at yourself," Lady Eugenia said, her tone harsh and daunting. "You're pathetic, old, and all wrinkly. Who would marry someone like you and make her their Luna?"

I was shocked by how quickly Lady Eugenia's tone had changed. I was not the only one. Maria looked equally stunned.

"What are you saying? You promised me!" Maria yelled.

That was when Lady Eugenia wrapped her fingers around Maria's neck and slammed her against the wall.

"Do you really think I'd keep you alive with my biggest secret?" Lady Eugenia hissed. "What we did here is so criminal that if anyone finds out, I'll be executed in public."

At that moment, I was honestly terrified of Lady Eugenia.

The way she held Maria by the throat while hissing those words sent fear through me.

"And remember, you can't even use magic on me," Lady Eugenia chuckled, making me realize she had planned this from the very beginning. "Remember that potion you gave me as proof that you'd never use magic on me? Well, that was for this very moment, silly."

I watched Maria struggle to pry Lady Eugenia's hand from her neck, but the grip only tightened.

"Warriors! Get in here and kill her! I don't want any witnesses left alive!" Lady Eugenia shouted as she hurled Maria into the bookshelves, sending books and decorations crashing down on top of her.

Maria struggled to her feet with tears in her eyes. She looked at me, then back at Lady Eugenia.

"It is true. Evil eats evil," she muttered.

Then I noticed the corner of her lips curl upward ever so slightly.

A moment later, the warriors rushed inside and handed Lady Eugenia a dagger.

Maria looked down at the wound in her chest before lifting her gaze to Lady Eugenia.

"But you never said I couldn't put a curse on your daughter."

As soon as she said that, Lady Eugenia's head snapped toward me, and I shrank farther into the corner.

"What did you do to her? What did you do to her?" Lady Eugenia screamed, grabbing Maria by the shoulders and shaking her while Maria laughed in her face.

"I had a feeling you'd do something like this, so I placed a little curse on her. I planned to remove it only if you fulfilled my demands, but you didn't," Maria uttered, laughing even more maniacally.

"What the fuck did you do to her?" Lady Eugenia turned to me and yelled.

At that point, I was about to tell her that she had been feeding me strange liquids, but I stopped myself because I remembered I was no longer supposed to be Rosetta.

Lady Eugenia turned back to Maria.

"You'll have to get her married to an Alpha soon because she'll never be able to leave the boundaries of this territory. So go ahead. Fight the council. Use all your wealth to establish a pack here. Then you'll have to keep protecting her and make sure she remains a Luna. Otherwise, she'll lose her life the moment she's taken out of this dimension."

As soon as Maria finished speaking, I realized that was why she had always told me I could never run away from this place.
