Livia:
Sawyer looked like he was ready to burn the world down.
At least this much I knew about President Sawyer.
He was not a man to mess with.
Everyone knew what he was like.
Sawyer could be perfectly calm one moment and incredibly destructive the next.
Now, his eyes were fixed on our faces.
"Gina, why don't you go home with Uncle Rob while I bring your mother here, hmm?" he asked, smiling widely at her.
But the smile looked unhinged, making my heart shudder in my chest.
"And what about Bodhi, Elara, and Mommy?" Gina asked playfully, making me realize there were three children involved. And a wife. Madeline, the great researcher.
How had I not done proper research on Gina?
If only she had started speaking sooner, I would have figured out so much.
At this point, I wasn't even sure President Sawyer waking up was a good thing.
"I'll bring them all here," Sawyer continued, smiling with that same unhinged expression.
"And Daddy too. I love Daddy Baxter," Gina uttered, hugging the air as Sawyer kept smiling, but I saw his jaw clench.
He wasn't even blinking. He simply nodded.
"Sure, of course," Sawyer uttered, smacking his lips. "He'll be the first one to arrive here."
As he finished speaking, his eyes lifted to me, and I caught the deadpan look on his face.
"Now go, okay?" He leaned back, gesturing for Rob to take Gina away.
As they walked past me, I wanted to snatch Gina, take off my pendant, unleash destruction, and get the hell out of there.
Take her to her father, Baxter.
But I couldn't do that. I didn't know if I would be able to control my wolf when I hadn't let her out all these years.
Once Gina was gone, President Sawyer's eyes landed on me.
"You'd better start talking."
That was all he said. He didn't ask me any questions because he knew I already knew what he wanted to ask.
How the heck had Gina ended up back in the human world while Madeline, Baxter, Bodie, and Elara were nowhere to be found?
"Sir, you—you went into a coma right after your second marriage," I started to explain, trembling all over.
Then I noticed him raise a finger.
"My second marriage?" he asked.
My heart flipped inside my chest once again.
"To Nina. Your children's nanny," I uttered, watching him rest his arm on the chair's armrest and pinch his chin as he zoned out, thinking about something.
"Keep talking," he ordered.
I quickly did as instructed.
I told him about what had happened after he fell into a coma.
I didn't tell him about the monster, though. I don't know why, but something in my heart wanted to protect him.
"So you're telling me that Gina was brought here by a current of water?" Sawyer asked, and I nodded.
"The one that flows from the werewolf land into one of the villages in the human world," I lied.
