I arrived before my mother.

My father was already standing beside me.

I had been wronged so much.

I could only imagine how I was going to face Elgin today.

Not because I felt guilty or anything, but because I was so angry with him.

"What's going on?" my father asked as he waited for me to get out of the car.

I was wearing a pink dress, trying to look soft and gentle.

But I had been picking at the corner of my fingernail ever since the journey began.

"I don't know," I replied, looking up at my father as tears welled in my eyes.

"Come on. Everything will be fine, just as we planned," my father said, holding out his hand to me.

I nodded and stepped out of the car.

The door had barely closed before I saw Elgin's car pull up.

And, well, he wasn't alone.

And I wasn't talking about his mother.

I was talking about fucking Kaylee.

She stepped out with a bright smile, looking happy as she kept glancing at Elgin.

And I swear she did it because she knew I was standing nearby.

So I was right.

"Come on. I can't wait to divorce you," Elgin said, looking me straight in the eye.

There was no love. No compassion. Not even any hurt.

He didn't look like a broken Alpha who had been betrayed.

He looked like someone who had finally found an excuse to get rid of me so he could take more mates.

Together, they walked away while I turned to my father with tears in my eyes.

"It's okay. It's not like he's getting some great prize with Kaylee," my father said.

I tried to speak, but he placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Everything will be fine. Remember, you're special. Always," my father said.

I finally took a deep breath and nodded.

Then we walked through the crowd, and I began to hear the chanting.

"Well, it seems even an Alpha's daughter can turn out to be a bastard and a slut," someone commented.

I hugged myself tightly as I made my way toward the main stage.

The despair consumed me.

Elgin hadn't even married me with this much grandeur.

So why was the divorce such a grand spectacle?
