Walking out of the mansion after he told me to get him the medicine, since I had the duplicate keys to Madeline's stash and was the only one who knew which medicines were which, I sprinted.

But just as we reached the gate, a warrior stepped forward with a smile on his lips.

"I'll drive you home."

The way he said it was a clear hint that they weren't going to let me go home alone.

Taking a deep breath, I nodded.

Once I got home, I was going to plan a whole-ass escape.

I was going to contact Daniel, ask him where the fuck he was, and tell him everything I knew about the Sawyer.

We all needed to get the fuck out of the human world because this place definitely wasn't safe anymore.

The drive was the hardest part.

I kept taking deep, shaky breaths, trying my best to calm my nerves so none of the warriors would think I was planning something crazy.

When the car pulled up outside my building, I got out.

However, the moment six guards started following me, I turned around and looked at them.

"It's okay. I'll just take the lift to my floor," I told them.

They nodded.

Then I took a few steps forward.

They still followed.

I stepped into the lift, and two of them got in with me while the others signalled that they'd meet us on my floor.

"I'm sorry, why are you following me?" I asked the two guards beside me.

They only smirked without answering.

Maybe they'd just stand outside my apartment. That's what I thought.

So when I got to my floor, I hurried towards my apartment, but they stayed so close they boxed me in while I unlocked the door.

"Could you please look away? I have to enter the code," I said to one of the guards.

"It's okay. I'll do it for you," the guard replied as he reached over and entered my code into the lock.

The moment he stepped back, they all started smiling, and my heart lurched into my throat.

That's when I realised they had been here before. They already knew the code.

I immediately opened the door and rushed inside.

"Mom!" I screamed in panic, dropping my bag as I looked everywhere.

She wasn't there.

A bowl of ramen sat on the table, growing cold.

I turned to the guards.

Then it hit me.

They were getting comfortable.

They were going to stay here with me.

"Where's my mom?" I demanded, approaching the nearest guard.

"Sir has her," he replied.

His answer made my jaw drop.

I immediately rushed for my bag, but another guard caught hold of it.
