Rosetta:
It was so annoying, watching this man fight not only my father but then come out and talk like he was the biggest hero.
There were a few things he said that did make sense. He was a lycan.
How the hell did humans overpower him so easily? Or maybe it was because they had a lot of weapons?
Because, well, I had heard before that humans had prepared weapons they could use if werewolves ever attacked them.
Did that much destruction really happen while they were casting him out?
Or was he telling the truth? Did he really just leave everything behind because he didn't want to fight back?
And then there was Lady Eugenia.
She had sat between us, but she kept snapping her head toward me, constantly demanding eye contact.
I hadn't turned toward her once. I was already going through a plethora of emotions.
How the heck did my father come here? Why would he do that? He never did that.
He must have been lured here. There was no other way.
And my mother had done it. I was one hundred percent sure. I just didn't know how to prove it yet.
Anxiety filled my heart because the last time I saw him, the lycan had seriously injured him.
"Is it true that you can cure our children?" another woman called out.
My head snapped up. I finally turned to look at Sawyer but instead met my mother's gaze. She was watching me without blinking.
"It is true," he replied confidently.
"Would you like me to tell you how you plan to do that?”
That was it. I had let him speak, and now he thought the world was his playground, his stage. He'd been talking nonstop.
Somebody had to intervene.
He turned in his seat and slowly gestured for Lady Eugenia to move out of the way.
As she leaned back, my eyes met Sawyer's cold gaze.
I had noticed him staring at me intensely.
It was the same look people gave me when they recognized how much I resembled Madeline, so I could tell he was noticing the similarities as well.
"I will. But what if I tell you that the answer lies in killing that monster?"
The minute Sawyer pointed toward the air, my heart sank in my chest. Everybody else gasped.
"Well, from time to time, many people have tried to kill the monster. It has never ended well," a woman from the crowd remarked, making me force a sad expression and nod.
