Sawyer:
I had done a great job. More specifically, Lady Eugenia had done an incredible job.
Just like she had said, the monster came following the meats through the trees, sniffing them out until he reached the exact spot.
When the monster tried to descend, my lycan was already getting agitated.
It had been so long since my monster had fought someone as powerful as him.
Not to mention, Baxter had defeated him while still in human form.
But we would rather not talk about that.
The monster was easy for us to control. The minute we came face-to-face with him, my lycan sensed his vulnerability.
The monster was like a puppy that gets too excited and starts biting people.
He didn't know where he belonged, whether it was among monsters or humans.
As I fought him, I made sure to scratch and bloody him, but I hadn't planned to kill him. Not yet.
So, after beating him up, I slowly let him go. He flew away while my lycan stood tall, taking deep, heavy breaths.
I had to calm him. I had to remind him that if he didn't stop, we would be back in chains.
Thankfully, Lady Eugenia had fed us plenty of blood before we came here.
The fresh supply had really helped keep my lycan under control.
He was no longer hungry. Otherwise, the people around us would have become his food.
Slowly, I started transitioning back into my human form, wearing nothing but shorts. I was on my knees when I heard people gasping.
"He saved us!" a woman yelled. She had been paid by Lady Eugenia to hype up the crowd.
"Yes, he saved us! Oh Goddess! And we were calling him a monster!" another man exclaimed, probably recruited by Lady Eugenia to do the same.
One thing I learned about Lady Eugenia was that she was incredibly clever.
I did not like clever people. If they were willing to hurt others, they would be willing to hurt me as well.
But I had kept her on my side for a little while. She was doing a great job for me.
Lady Eugenia came with spare clothes for me. I was taken into the SUV and immediately started to change.
While I got ready, Lady Eugenia's people snuck off and secretly took out the meets, stuffing them into their handbags, purses, or wherever else they could hide them.
Once I had changed into the new suit, I walked out like a hero.
But seeing a woman come out of her mansion in a black gown almost made me trip.
For a second, I had to blink twice to make sure I was seeing her right.
It was none other than a woman who looked a lot like Madeline and a little like Dr. Livia.
