Baxter:
After that night, Madeline had grown more distant from me.
She had moved in with the children and was sleeping in their room.
I could tell that she was really happy to have Gina and me back.
But of course, my memory had become a huge issue, and not telling her about my wolf had really upset her too.
My wolf, on the other hand, was very happy knowing that there were issues between us.
“Did you send them the letter?” she asked dryly as she worked on the files.
We had been sitting in the office for about two hours, and she had not lifted her head from her desk or computer, while I had not looked away from her once.
“I did,” I replied.
“I want you to plan a quick meeting with them,” she instructed.
She wasn’t exactly suggesting it but demanding it, and well, I didn’t mind her being a little sassy.
I liked the way she was controlling me.
“Whenever you say, I’ll do it,” I assured her, watching as she finally looked up at me.
“The kids’ schools are starting soon,” I continued, watching her face start to turn red. “I want them to continue living their lives now. Enough is enough. They’ve suffered enough.”
My fists clenched every time I thought about Elgin and Graham hurting my daughters.
Those evil men had crushed their little hearts, and I would never tolerate that.
Every time I watched my daughters’ smiles fade, I got scared, thinking maybe they had remembered the harsh words of those men.
The thought never let me be at peace.
“I was thinking if— if Bodhi gets here soon, we will–” she trailed off, not finishing the sentence.
“That would be amazing. But I’m not gonna let my daughters suffer because one of my children is not with us. I want them to continue living their lives because, at the end of the day, I have to fix everything that is broken in them too,” I stated with confidence and determination.
I understood that my heart was crying for Bodhi, but at the same time, my daughters needed me just as much.
I was not gonna keep them in the house, thinking that I would settle their lives once everything was in our favor.
No. Everything would be in our favor once my children’s lives were settled.
Madeline nodded, looking down as she sniffled and continued working on her computer.
There was a knock on the door, and Madeline answered it.
The person who walked in immediately made me roll my eyes.
It was as if I could not catch a break.
