Ron had been yelling at the top of his lungs ever since he returned to my house a day later.

Once we started talking, I finally told them everything.

I was completely transparent with them.

“Is that why you didn’t want to kill the monster? Because he’s your father?” he demanded again, and I nodded.

“Okay, quit yelling at her. It’s not easy for her to talk about all that trauma,” Byron interjected, stepping up to defend me as he faced Ron.

“Well, you need to understand that she has to be honest with us about everything. Otherwise, we’re going to lose whatever war we’re fighting with Sawyer. You know Madeline is in the human world. She’s all by herself. We don’t even know what kind of experiments the humans are conducting on her,” Ron shouted, his face tensing up with anger.

“I understand! You think that doesn’t bother me? I’m going crazy thinking about Madeline being there. If I could, I would give myself up for her. I’ll go there. I’ll enter the human world, and—” Byron trailed off, breathing heavily.

Then he turned to look at me and immediately fell silent.

Well, I had a feeling he really, really liked her.

And I began to wonder if it was true. Was he only with me because I reminded him of her?

“If you two boys are done fighting, there’s something I wanna ask,” Yuvonne cut in, silencing them both.

Nala nodded.

“What is it you wanna ask me?” I questioned.

Yuvonne tilted her head and spoke softly. “So, I heard you didn’t want Ron to kill the monster because he was Madeline’s father. And now you’re telling us he’s your father as well. Does that mean what I think it means?”

As soon as she brought it up, I drew a deep breath.

“I haven’t been completely honest with you all.”

I paused, then told them the lore of the sisters and everything else I had kept from them.

Now, I had truly told them everything about myself.

They stared at me, their eyes wide.

“You’re not gonna yell at her anymore?” Yuvonne teased Ron with a smirk.

“I mean, she is Madeline’s sister,” Ron muttered, looking pale after the revelation.

The moment those words left her mouth, it was as if all my lost confidence came rushing back.

But Nala swallowed, and I had a feeling the news wasn’t going to be as good as it sounded.

“There’s a—” she faltered, and my eyes grew watery just from the way she had started speaking.

“We have to make him drink the water from the well where the curse originated,” she explained, making Ron lift his head.

I watched Yuvonne reach for his hand and give it a squeeze, silencing him.

“Let her finish,” she instructed, pointing at Nala.

“Oh, sorry,” Ron immediately apologized.

We were all on our last nerve, so interruptions weren’t met with harsh remarks, just a quiet squeeze of the hand.
