She had so many questions, and I was getting anxious as I tried to reach her.

Every time I got too close, she started pounding on the walls, hurting her knuckles.

"Why did she say that we would want revenge on her?" my wolf snapped again, ruining the moment as I tried to calm down the woman I loved while he rambled on about random stuff.

"Axe, didn't you tell me what she's been through? Of course she hates me now. Of course she believes we don't love her."

As I tried to make him understand, my wolf grunted.

"But why would we want revenge on her? Did you not hear that word?" he pressed.

I shook my head, approaching Kaylee and grabbing both her arms.

The agitation in his voice was annoying me, so I tried to shut him out and focus on Kaylee.

"You are alive?" she asked.

I noticed how dry her lips were. The poor woman, my poor lover, had been treated so badly.

"Have you fucking lost your mind, Baxter? Listen to yourself. You don't even know if you loved her, and you're acting like she's your poor woman. And, oh, look at her dry lips," my wolf mocked me.

"You were the one who told me she loved me and that we were in love. You wanted me to save her. What the fuck is wrong with you?" I grunted at him, not understanding where this was coming from or what he was talking about.

"Look, all I'm trying to say is that I was trying to tell you how evil Madeline is, not that you're supposed to just save some woman."

My wolf immediately shut up because he had nothing else to say.

Why wouldn't I save this woman? I was in love with her.

"I don't understand," Kaylee uttered, her eyes moving around.
