Madeline:
It was as if I had gone back to the werewolf land. Seeing Ron here felt so strange.
It was like being at daycare and seeing your parents come for you at the end of the day.
That happiness of seeing an old, familiar face was exactly what I felt in that moment.
We hugged, and I actually had to calm my guards down because, from how tightly Ron was holding me, they thought he was strangling me.
“Oh my goodness, look at you!”
Ron broke the hug and took my hands, gently pushing me back so he could get a proper look at me.
“What is going on? Did they accept you back here? Oh my goodness, tell me you’re the president.” He started to ramble while I laughed, shaking my head.
“No. You’ll be surprised, actually,” I said, realizing I needed to let him settle down before breaking the news to him. “I have a surprise for you.”
“Wait, first let me take this in. We were so worried about you, but seeing you doing so well—” Ron placed a hand over his chest. “Oh my goodness, the others are going to be so relieved too.”
“Well—” I slowly tilted my head and studied his face as some of my excitement wore off and other questions began hitting me. “You’re back as an Alpha?”
He nodded, planting his hands on his waist with a cocky look on his face.
“Ah, it must be Rosetta. Did she help you?”
He nodded again, but this time, he pressed his lips together and stretched them into a ridiculous grin that somehow managed to look both funny and confident.
Then my smile completely faded.
“Nala?” I asked.
He frowned, and his smile disappeared too.
“Did you marry Nala?” I asked in confusion. I had thought Nala was becoming interested in Mathew. Maybe I had read everything wrong.
“What? No. Ew. She’s crazy,” Ron said, flicking a hand dismissively.
“Did you marry Rosetta?”
His eyebrows drew together.
“Why are you so focused on me remarrying?” he asked.
I rubbed my temples, trying to make sense of everything.
“Because they told us an Alpha and his Luna were coming over,” I explained. “That’s why I’m confused.”
Ron studied my face for a moment before nodding.
“Oh. Well, you’re not the only one with a surprise,” he said.
That made me think he had found someone else. Maybe he had finally decided to move on. Perhaps another woman had offered to marry him and help him build a new life.
