The camera angles and spoken words in both videos were identical.
Only the faces were different.
Aria looked at Gideon. “So how are you going to prove my evidence is fake now?”
Gideon's eyes darkened.
The videos were playing on a loop, the two girls' voices overlapping.
His gaze fell on Aria's once youthful face—pale, her eyes filled with a mix of despair and pleading.
But the hand in the video struck her face without mercy.
“Enough.” Gideon turned off the phone screen. “I will investigate this matter thoroughly.”
“But if the video turns out to be fake.”
Gideon left the sentence hanging, but Aria knew what he meant.
He wouldn't let her off the hook.
“Do whatever you want. I have a clear conscience.”
Seeing the tense, confrontational atmosphere between the young couple, Aldous Evernight's face hardened.
Gideon was now willing to defy him for another woman, and he treated his own wife with such an attitude.
Even if he looked down on Aria, he should at least keep up appearances!
“Grandfather, Lilith has been innocent throughout this whole affair. The grudge is between the Keene Group and Aria. Please let Lilith go.”
“That woman will be the ruin of you.”
Aldous Evernight could see it clearly. Gideon had already done too many absurd things for Lilith.
After watching the two videos, he was fairly certain Aria's was the real one.
As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. If Flora was so manipulative, then Lilith couldn't be a good person either.
“You'll stay at the family home for the next few days. I'd like to see anyone try to touch you!”
Aldous Evernight's gaze shifted to Aria's abdomen, his expression softening with affection.
“Should we have the family doctor check on you again?”
Aria had been prepared for this since Aldous Evernight found out about her pregnancy.
She took a medical report from a few days ago out of her bag and handed it to him. “The doctor just said I'm a bit malnourished and that I'll be fine with some rest.”
Aldous Evernight took the report, put on his reading glasses, and examined it carefully. Only after confirming there were no issues did he hand it back to Aria, satisfied.
“Grandfather, Lilith is still sick. She can't handle any stress.”
“Wait until Aria gives birth to the child. After that, you can do whatever you want, I won't interfere.”
Aldous Evernight looked at Gideon and sighed faintly.
“Gideon, I don't have much time left.”
He just wanted Aria to have this child within his lifetime. He wouldn't meddle in anything after that.
Gideon truly didn't understand. “Why does it have to be Aria?”
But Aldous Evernight refused to say another word.
***
After returning to her room, Aria quickly took a painkiller. Half an hour passed before the dull ache finally began to subside.
The doctor had said it would be best to remove her uterus as soon as possible, or there would be many complications.
But in her current physical condition, if she went on the operating table, she might not make it off.
She had to build up her strength first.
Drowsily, Aria turned on her phone. The screen was flooded with a long list of missed calls.
