Aria sat in the police station for over an hour before Roxanne and Nathan finally arrived.
“Aria, why do you suddenly want to sever ties?”
Nathan had been unsettled by what Aria had said a while back and had gone to the hospital for a check-up.
They had indeed found a problem.
He had been in the hospital for treatment the last few days and hadn’t attended the Brents’ birthday celebration. He had only heard from Roxanne that Aria had ruined the perfectly fine party.
And now she wanted to sever their relationship.
“Are you trying to take the money and not hold up your end of the bargain? We agreed that once you had the thirty million, we would have nothing to do with each other.”
A nearby police officer who was listening in almost choked on his own saliva.
Thirty million dollars?!
He looked at Aria again.
Her clothes didn’t look like they were from any particular brand, just ordinary attire. Then he looked at the two middle-aged people, who were expensively dressed. There was a Mercedes parked outside, likely with a chauffeur waiting.
If you put the three of them together, no one would ever guess they were a family.
So the young woman was so thin because she was saving money to break away from them.
“You have that much money? Did Gideon give it to you?”
Nathan glanced at Roxanne. “When did she transfer it to you?”
“Yesterday, in front of all the guests. She announced she was severing ties with us.”
“Nonsense!” Nathan shot Aria a glare. “What kind of occasion was that for you to act so recklessly? After all, she’s the woman who raised you for years!”
“And what about you?”
Aria’s lips curved into a slight smile.
So, Nathan knew it too. It was Roxanne who had raised her alone.
Before Aria turned fifteen, Roxanne had doted on her, but Nathan hadn't.
He had never given Aria the fatherly love she deserved. Even worse, when he found out Aria wasn't Roxanne's daughter, he had suggested throwing her out immediately.
