“When that happens, my lawsuit will be publicly searchable online. Everyone will know that you’re relentlessly exploiting me for thirty million dollars.”
“Even if we don’t sever ties, what’s left of your reputation will be in tatters.”
“Are you threatening me?!” Nathan slammed his hand on the table in fury. “As long as I’m alive, you will never be completely free of the Rowan family!”
Aria stared at him coldly. “Why?”
This was a police station; she wasn’t afraid Nathan would get physical.
She was provoking him. If Nathan knew her true origins, he might let something slip in his anger.
But at the same time, Aria knew she would only feel more sorrow.
If Nathan really knew she was his illegitimate daughter, then there had always been a blood connection between them.
And all these years, Nathan had never once cared about her.
“There is no why!” Nathan pointed a finger at Aria’s nose. “You’re just like your mother, both fickle, treacherous bitches! You think you can just discard the Rowan family because you married well? I’m telling you, in your dreams!”
“What does this have to do with my mother?”
“That’s enough, honey!” Roxanne quickly grabbed Nathan’s arm. “Why are you saying these things in front of Aria? This is our business, don’t drag her into it.”
Roxanne’s words, which seemed to be defending Aria, actually confirmed what Nathan had said.
How could Aria not see through it?
It seemed that Nathan, Roxanne, and her mother, Sylvia, not only knew each other but had a complicated history.
Nathan’s face was red with rage. “Truly the daughter of that bitch. If I had known it would come to this, I should have strangled you the moment you were born!”
She tapped her finger on the agreement.
“You think I’ll believe you after a few random sentences? Sign the agreement now, or I’ll file a lawsuit immediately. My mother was single until the day she died. Legally, I have no father.”
Aria was now adamant that she had no blood ties to Nathan. And since Nathan was so concerned with his reputation, how could he allow himself to be humiliated in the same way twice?
The choice was either Aria publicly suing to sever ties or signing the agreement now and minimizing the damage.
These were the two options Aria gave them.
“Honey, let’s just sign it.” Roxanne sighed. “What else can we do? Do we really want the family’s dirty laundry aired out in public?”
She spoke softly, then her tone shifted. “However, we can sign the agreement, but you have to promise us one thing. After we sever ties, we will be the ones to release the statement. You are not allowed to say anything.”
