Flora gritted her teeth. "Gideon! Lilith is dead! Are you really that concerned about her murderer?!"
"What reason would Aria have to kill Lilith?"
Gideon frowned, retorting instinctively.
"Do you know that the cause of Lilith's death was her oxygen tube being removed? Aria did it! And then she put on a show of resuscitating her!"
"I don't believe it."
Flora looked as if she could shatter her own teeth.
"What if Aria poisoned her?" Charles held out his hand, the small vial in his palm feeling cold. "A bottle with no label and signs of use. You know what that implies."
Gideon took the bottle and examined it closely. The stopper had a mark from a syringe insertion…
Charles watched Gideon. "Flora found this on Aria."
Gideon's jaw tightened. He turned to Aria. "Is what he's saying true?"
Aria nodded. "Yes."
Gideon’s breath hitched in his chest. “Why, Aria? I told you she was out of my life for good. Why couldn't you just let it be? Why did you have to go to her?!”
Do you have any idea? Because I promised you I wouldn't see her, Mrs. Rowan called me, begging me to see Lilith one last time, and I refused!"
"I chose you over everything, and then you do this? Aria, look at me! How could you be this reckless?!"
Aria looked at Gideon, her expression indifferent. "For me? I never told you not to see Lilith. Why are you shifting your problem onto me?"
"She begged you, and you didn't go. That was your heartless decision. I didn't even know about it, yet you can blame me? Gideon, you can't accept Lilith's death, so you're looking for an excuse for your actions, is that it?
Unfortunately for me, I'm that convenient excuse, aren't I?"
Aria's tone was mocking.
Time and time again.
Gideon always claimed that because of her, this or that happened to Lilith, and he had to do this or that. It was quite a load of blame to dump on her.
