After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 238

The Evernight family was rich, but the last time Roxanne had blackmailed Aldous, he had put the debt on Aria's head. If this blackmail attempt succeeded, Aria would be saddled with a two-hundred-million-dollar debt.

They reaped all the benefits, but Aria was the one who had to pay it back? How could something so convenient exist?

Aria tore the contract to shreds and looked at Aldous. "Grandfather, I've already said, if he has evidence, let him sue me. I won't accept any excuse about spending money 'for my sake.' If you give him the money…"

Aria paused, her tone sinking. "I will apply to withdraw from the project. I mean what I say."

If Nathan could threaten Aldous, then so could she.

Aldous's hands clenched into fists. To think that after a lifetime of building his reputation, he was now being threatened by these two at the same time!

Aldous's breathing grew ragged, and Raphael immediately had a servant bring his medication.

"Dad, I believe Aria couldn't have killed Lilith. The authorities won't implicate Aria over some baseless accusations. Besides, Aria's status now is different than before. The consequences of falsely accusing her would be severe."

Aria joining the national research team was no secret to the Evernight father and son, but Nathan was unaware.

All he knew was that the contract he was about to get signed had been ruined by Aria!

He had to fight the urge to strike her across the face. "How did I end up with such an ungrateful wretch of a daughter!"

Raphael's gaze turned icy. He shot out a hand and grabbed Nathan's arm as it swung toward her. "The Evernight estate is not a place for you to cause trouble. Get out."

Raphael's voice was quiet but carried an authority that momentarily stunned Nathan. By the time he came to his senses, he had been escorted out of the Evernight residence.

Nathan cursed under his breath. As he turned to leave, he saw Gideon driving up.

Gideon shoved Aria's medical file at Eveline, his voice laced with anger and a hint of barely perceptible hurt. "Mom, Aria got rid of the baby a long time ago. She didn't want to carry my child, so she got rid of it…"

Eveline quickly took the file. She felt her blood pressure spike and sank onto the sofa, holding her head. "Oh, this is too much! I need to take some blood pressure medication too! How dare that vixen kill my grandchild!"

She didn't like Aria, but that didn't mean she didn't value the child in Aria's womb. It was Gideon's child, after all. How could she not love it?

"Divorce? You need to divorce her immediately! Since she doesn't want to have children, find someone who does! Anyone would think we're desperate to have her in the Evernight family!"

Divorce?

A flicker of confusion crossed Gideon's eyes. Hearing his mother's words, he suddenly calmed down. Was he this angry because he truly wanted to divorce Aria?
