No.
Gideon knew in his heart that he was angry because Aria didn't want to carry his child, not because he wanted to divorce her.
He was only now realizing just how important Aria was to him. For the past three years, she had taken care of him, tolerated him. It was he who had broken her heart, driving her to the despair of ending the pregnancy.
If he had just been a little kinder to her…
Would things have turned out differently?
"Are you sure you want to move out? Do you need a ride?" Raphael asked, carrying Aria's suitcase out.
Aria, maneuvering her wheelchair, coolly refused. "No, thank you. My wound has mostly healed. It won't delay the project, so you can rest easy."
In truth, Raphael was only so good to her because of her connection to Dawn, wasn't he?
Though Aria was grateful, the thought that his kindness was conditional made her feel a little awkward.
After a moment of silence, she spoke again. "The formula for that medication can be refined every six months. I'll write you a detailed prescription when the time comes, so you don't have to worry."
"You think that's why I'm here, taking care of you?"
Raphael was always gentle, but hearing Aria's words, the smile on his lips faded.
"Then why else?"
The sound of a string snapping echoed in Gideon's mind as he saw the two of them talking as they came out of the room.
So Aria had started making those special dietary meals for Raphael now, too, had she?! What about him?!
A woman who had lost the most important part of herself would probably never be able to marry into a good family again.
"Aria, so you can't have children anymore! I used to say you couldn't get pregnant, and look at you, now you really can't! Since you don't have a uterus, divorce my son and stop being a burden to him! Don't drag him down!"
"However, in consideration for the three years you've taken care of my son, I can give you a sum of money as compensation so you'll be financially secure for life! Don't you dare push your luck!"
Pity was one thing, but the Evernight family was not an ordinary family. They already had few heirs. If they took in a wife who couldn't bear children, wouldn't the Evernight line end? That was unacceptable!
"Mom! I'm not divorcing Aria!"
The words slipped out of Gideon's mouth. Realizing what he'd said, he quickly added, "Since she got rid of my child, she owes me another one!"
Aria was baffled. She had already tuned out Eveline's words, letting them go in one ear and out the other, but when she heard Gideon, a giant question mark appeared in her mind.
