After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 26

But the stab of pain in her heart was still there.

“Gideon, if Aria doesn’t want to have a baby to save me, can you please not force her? I don’t want her to hate me…”

At her words, Gideon’s expression softened.

“Aria isn’t unwilling.”

Aria clenched her fists and sneered. In Gideon’s eyes, she didn’t even have the right to be unwilling.

“I know she doesn’t want to. Otherwise, she would have come to the hospital to see me!” Lilith whimpered softly on the other end of the line. “Gideon, please don’t force her, okay? She’s the only sister I have. I don’t want to see her suffer…”

No one would willingly give up their life. Unless Aria had said something to her.

Gideon gently reassured Lilith, promising to visit her later. Only then did Lilith hang up, her voice choked with sobs.

“What did you say to Lilith?” As soon as the call ended, Gideon’s voice turned cold. “How else would she know you’re unwilling to have a child?”

Aria looked up. “I haven’t even seen her today. What could I have said?”

Besides, Lilith didn’t have a late-stage bone tumor. She wasn’t in desperate need of umbilical cord blood to save her life. It was very likely a misdiagnosis.

A misdiagnosis? Could it be that Lilith also knew it was a misdiagnosis, and that's why she didn't want Gideon to touch her? Was her real goal to force Gideon to divorce Aria so she could take her place?

Unfortunately for Lilith, her plan backfired. Not only did Gideon not divorce her, but he was now determined to have a child with her to save Lilith.

Gideon’s expression was indifferent. “Lilith is kind. She’s nothing like you.”

She’d heard that line so many times it had lost its sting.

“Well, what if Lilith is…”

“Aria, you’ve been married to Gideon for three years without producing a child, and now you’re yelling at him. Is this how the Rowan family taught you to behave? You won’t even save your own sister. If you ask me, you should have the child and divorce Gideon immediately!”

Aria stared coldly at Eveline.

Because Eveline had given the Evernight family a son before her husband’s early death, she was highly respected within the family. She had never faced any real hardship and viewed producing a son as her great contribution, considering herself a major benefactor of the Evernight family. She was arrogant and used to everyone indulging her, so she often spoke without thinking.

“I’m perfectly willing to get a divorce. It’s your son who isn’t,” Aria said, laying her cards on the table. “Don’t assume everyone’s life mission is to have a son, like yours was.”

If it weren’t for Gideon, she would have already secured an agreement with her professor and had a chance to work in a top-tier research institute, instead of being stuck here arguing with Eveline. Her path was meant to be one of benefiting humanity, not getting dragged into this mess.

The thought soured Aria’s tone even further.

“If you’ve got the guts, get Gideon to smile and agree to a divorce. I’ll walk away without a second thought and never look back!”
