A divorce?
Just a while ago, she was telling Roxanne she would never get a divorce. Now, she was acting so brazenly, all because she held the leverage of the umbilical cord blood.
Gideon’s eyes darkened. “Aria, have you said enough? Get out.”
“I’m serious about the divorce.”
She knew Gideon wouldn’t believe her, so she went back to the bedroom and handed him the divorce agreement she had prepared.
Gideon glanced at it and tossed it directly into the trash. “Even if we get a divorce, you’re not leaving until after the baby is born.”
Eveline sized up Aria. Her face was pale and she was a bit thin, but her eyes held a strange determination.
Still, Aria was a scheming woman. It wasn’t that she didn’t want something; she wanted more.
Eveline had come to see Gideon this time because the patriarch had instructed her to make sure Aria had a child. It seemed the old man thought highly of Gideon and wanted him to have an heir as soon as possible. Besides, if Aria had a child, she would get shares in the Evernight Group. Even if they were to divorce, Eveline wanted to make sure her son got his hands on those shares first.
With that in mind, Eveline suppressed her anger. “Aria, come with me for a moment.”
Aria didn’t want to go, but a maid had already stepped forward, making it clear she was ready to drag her if she refused.
A chill spread through her. In the Evernight family, she was nothing but a tool. Even the servants dared to lay their hands on her.
Aria took a deep breath and looked at Gideon. “I am serious about the divorce.”
“Bring her over,” Eveline said, tired of hearing Aria talk about divorce.
Gideon’s expression was flat, completely unconcerned about Aria being taken away. He picked up Lilith’s medical file and continued reading. As he reviewed the blood work and biopsy results, his brow twitched. What had Aria been about to say earlier?
To be safe, he forwarded the medical file to Charles and several other reputable doctors.
She felt utterly humiliated. Tears streamed down her face as she clenched her jaw, but the bitter taste filled her mouth.
“That’s enough.”
Gideon emerged from the study, his brow furrowed at the sight of Aria’s state.
Clara immediately stopped.
Eveline looked up. “Aria is being ungrateful. Don’t you understand what I’m doing for you?”
“I need to talk to Aria about something. You should head back now.”
His words were a clear dismissal. Eveline huffed and left with her maids. The medicine had been drunk, so now Aria would have a baby whether she wanted to or not.
Gideon walked over to Aria. She was lying on the floor, her face stained with the dark liquid. The medicinal smell was strong, and red fingerprints marked her cheek where she’d been held down.
