Her eyes were filled with tears, a picture of misery. But Gideon remained unmoved. “What were you saying about Lilith?”
Aria had thought Gideon was actually coming to her rescue, but it was still all about Lilith.
A low laugh escaped her lips, her heart feeling as if it had been torn wide open. It was a laugh for her own foolishness, for the three years of suffering. Gideon didn't deserve her love.
“I said, Lilith doesn’t have a late-stage bone tumor. She doesn’t need umbilical cord blood. So, can we get a divorce now?” Aria pushed herself into a sitting position, her eyes numb as she looked at Gideon.
For some reason, a flicker of panic stirred in Gideon’s chest. “What do you mean by that?”
He had just consulted other doctors, and they had all confirmed it was a late-stage tumor. Why was Aria so insistent that it wasn’t?
“There’s a discrepancy between her blood work and the biopsy results. It’s cancer, but it’s definitely not late-stage. The blood counts for a late-stage patient would be much lower. Her counts are high because Lilith has been on medication.”
The best medicine, which Gideon had spared no expense on for Lilith. That's why she was still up and about.
And Aria dared to question the diagnosis? She was just a secretary who started working for him right after graduating college. What professional knowledge could she possibly have? And he had actually believed her for a second. It was laughable.
Aria’s eyelids felt heavy. She shook her head hard, a growing heat spreading through her body. Something was wrong…
The medicine, there was something wrong with it!
A feverish heat began to crawl beneath Aria’s skin, her vision blurring as her breath hitched in short, frantic gasps.
