Laura eyed Isabella’s confidence and couldn’t help but ask, “Isabella, did you get someone to read your fortune or something?”
“No,” Isabella replied, totally unfazed.
“Then how do you know short drama investments are going to make money?”
Isabella grinned. “I just have a feeling. Plus, it’s Ethan’s money we’re playing with. If we lose it, no big deal. Let’s just go check out Adams Entertainment now.”
Laura lit up right away. “Alright.” She’d never been to an entertainment company before. Who knew, maybe she’d even spot a celebrity or two.
The two friends left Laura’s place, and Isabella drove them straight to Adams Entertainment, following the GPS. The drive wasn’t far, maybe twenty minutes because of all the red lights. If traffic was clear, they’d be there in ten.
Adams Entertainment was run by one of Ethan’s cousins, Frank. When Frank heard Isabella was there, he thought he’d misheard. “Eleanor, who did you say just arrived?” he asked his secretary again.
“It’s Isabella, Mr. Adams,” Eleanor repeated.
Ethan and Isabella’s wedding had made headlines everywhere. Everyone at the company knew Isabella, and pretty much the whole city did too. Meanwhile, Ethan always protected Natalie Gates’s privacy. He never let the media get a glimpse of her without her permission. The whole world knew Mrs. Adams, and that made Isabella an easy target if anyone ever wanted to cause trouble. That was the difference between being loved and just being useful, though Isabella hadn’t figured that out yet.
Frank was surprised. “You didn’t know? Doesn’t she usually check with you before doing anything? And weren’t you two supposed to be on your honeymoon today?”
Ethan sounded even colder. “Work is too busy. The trip’s off. She hasn’t said a word to me about acting. Ask her what she wants. If she brings up anything about being an actress, turn her down. Tell her that unless I approve, she won’t even get to be an extra.”
“I give her three hundred thousand a month for spending. If she wants something, I buy it. All I ask is that she stays home and keeps up appearances. Why does she have to make things so complicated?”
Frank could hear the irritation in Ethan’s voice. “Alright, I’ll talk to her. Don’t worry, there’s no way I’ll let her act. That would just embarrass the whole family.”
