Ethan paused for a moment before saying, “Grandma, can you send a few people over? I’m out of copies of the wedding gift list. If you have any extras, have the bodyguards bring them to me.”
It was time to cut through the chaos.
“Alright, I’ll send eight bodyguards right away. Is that enough?” Stephanie replied. “And I’ll have Mike bring the list. Just make your stance clear, then let Mike handle the rest.”
Stephanie worried that Ethan would go soft the moment he saw Natalie, so she figured Mike should go along to keep an eye on things.
“Thank you, Grandma.”
“I just hope you’ve really figured it out this time,” Stephanie said with a sigh. “Then all the love I’ve given you won’t have been for nothing. What are you planning to do about Isabella?”
“I promised her I’d give her an answer in three days. Either I help her get her wedding gifts back, or I agree to a divorce.”
Ethan thought about what Keith had said. Keith told him that picking between the two wasn’t the answer anymore.
“Just divorce her,” Stephanie said gently. “Even if you finally make a choice, you don’t love her. There’s no reason to keep her tied to you. Give her back her freedom. Let her find real happiness, let her choose the life she truly wants.”
“Grandma, you really think I should divorce Isabella? It’s not that I dislike her. I did want to spend my life with her.”
“Your marriage was a mistake from the start. You don’t dislike her, but you don’t love her either. Living with a man who doesn’t love you is miserable.”
