Natalie felt her heart twist with panic and bitterness. Panic because she was terrified Ethan didn’t love her anymore, and bitterness because Isabella had somehow stolen his attention, and maybe even his love.

If Ethan was really going to help Isabella get those wedding gifts back, there was nothing Natalie could do. After all, they were gifts from Ethan to Isabella. They were never meant for the Lane family, and definitely not for Natalie herself. Back then, Natalie had taken advantage of Cynthia and Isabella’s quiet, gentle natures. She and Jordan had been around the Lane family since they were kids, so she knew exactly how little power the two women had in that house. “Maybe Mom and Dad just heard you were feeling sick the other day and wanted to check on you,” Jordan said, trying to comfort her.

They walked out of the main house just as Adelina’s car rolled up. Both of them hurried down the steps.

“Dad, Mom!” Natalie called out, putting on her brightest smile. She rushed over, sweetly calling out to her parents before slipping her arm through her mother’s.

Adelina was a bit older than Jennifer, but she took such good care of herself that they looked the same age. Natalie was the perfect mix of her parents, inheriting all their best features.

“It’s nothing serious. Let’s talk inside,” Natalie said, biting back her anger as she led her parents toward the house.

Right then, the front gates swung open again and several cars rolled in one after another. Ethan had been waiting for Mike and the eight bodyguards to arrive from the Adams estate, which took a while. Only after Mike showed up with the list of wedding gifts did Ethan leave to pick up Isabella from her film set. On the way back, they ran into Cynthia, so they all came together.

The convoy of cars pulled up to the house and parked. As soon as Natalie saw the black Maybach at the front, her face went completely white. She looked like she’d seen a ghost.
