After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 429

"Wedding gifts?" Adelina looked over at Natalie and lowered her voice. "Isabella and Ethan have been married for months. Why are we still talking about wedding gifts?"

Natalie’s expression was tight. She said nothing, just stared hard at Ethan.

Ethan glanced at her for a moment, then turned away. He signaled to Mike, who stepped forward and unrolled a long list, spreading it across the coffee table. The list was so long it didn’t even fit, the end almost brushing the floor.

"Jackson," Ethan started, "when I gave Isabella those wedding gifts, I was clear they were for her alone. But the only things she actually got were the villa at Elysian Fields and the car she’s driving now. Everything else stayed here at the Lane house. You told me yourself that you wouldn’t keep anything, that Isabella would take all of it with her. That’s what you said, right?"

Jackson nodded. "I did say that. But Isabella said she grew up here, that she owed me for raising her, so she wanted to leave most of the gifts behind. It wasn’t my idea, it was..."

"That’s not true, Jackson," Isabella cut in. "I never chose to leave anything behind. Natalie took my wedding gifts by force. My mom tried to talk to her, even just to let me take half, but Natalie refused and yelled at her. I didn’t want to make things harder for my mom, and I didn’t want this mess to ruin my wedding, so I kept quiet."

She drew a breath, her voice steady. "But I’m done staying quiet. I want my gifts back. Ethan gave them to me. Why should Natalie get to keep them? She didn’t raise me. You did, Jackson, and I’m grateful, but my mom raised Jordan too. If I owe you, then Jordan owes my mom just as much."
