“What are you heading home to deal with?” Deborah asked, her voice warm with concern. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“No, you really can’t help with this. I’m going to talk to Cynthia about the divorce.”
Deborah let out a soft “Oh,” and there was a little smile in her tone. “Should I bring some soup over to your place?”
“No need. I’ll be heading out soon anyway. You have it yourself.”
“Alright, then are you coming for dinner tonight? You’ve been coming over a lot lately. Kevin’s been so happy.”
Jackson really was good to Kevin, but he never seemed to have enough time for him. The few times he could spare to be with Kevin, the kid was absolutely thrilled. Jackson knew he hadn’t been there enough. He made a mental note to make it up to him from now on.
“Yeah, I’ll come over.”
Deborah smiled, satisfied, before ending the call. She shot a message to Cynthia: Did Jackson agree to the divorce?
Cynthia simply replied: Yeah.
Deborah was over the moon. After eleven years of being Jackson’s secret, and with Kevin already ten years old, she was finally going to be his official partner. No more sneaking around. She and Kevin could finally walk into the Lane family home with their heads held high. Kevin wouldn’t have to carry the label of illegitimate son anymore. Everything the Lane family owned would soon belong to her.
Cynthia looked at Jackson. “I still have a lot to pack. I’m going upstairs. Before the divorce is done, I’ll make sure everything that’s mine is out.”
