The White Group and the Adams Group were locked in a never-ending rivalry. Douglas watched Ethan’s every move, almost like it was his full-time job. Because of that, Douglas knew all about Ethan and Isabella’s marriage, and so did Linda.
Douglas loved to gossip about how Ethan and Isabella were doomed. He’d laugh and say the couple, barely married a few months, would definitely split up soon. Nothing made him happier than seeing his rival struggle.
What he never saw coming was Linda secretly thinking about setting him up with Isabella. If Douglas knew Linda was worrying about his love life, he’d have kept his mouth shut and never bragged about Ethan’s misery in front of her.
“I figured I’d better get in line before someone else does,” Linda joked.
Isabella rolled her eyes, half laughing. “Linda, don’t exaggerate. I know my own value. I’m not exactly a hot commodity.”
Linda just smiled, not mentioning that Harold was waiting for his chance too. She’d already picked up on Harold and Barbara’s little secrets. Douglas had made it clear more than once that Harold had feelings for Isabella. He thought it was hilarious that Ethan had a thing for his best friend’s wife, and now that same friend liked Ethan’s wife. In Douglas’s mind, it was karma coming for Ethan.
Douglas kept saying he couldn’t wait for Ethan and Isabella to get divorced. He wanted Harold to go after Isabella just to see Ethan lose his cool. Even if Ethan didn’t care about Isabella, watching a friend chase after his ex would drive him crazy. Douglas was only in it for the drama.
He never imagined Linda would jump in and try to set him up.
“If you and Ethan stay together, just pretend I never said any of this,” Linda said softly. “I don’t want to mess up your relationship.”
She added, “But Ethan is still hung up on Natalie. He’s not going to get over her easily. Isabella, don’t let him fool you.”
