Linda looked at Laura with a smile. “The Charles Group is ready to expand. With the Mason Group sending new business your way, you don’t have to stress about whether it’ll work out.”
Laura blinked in surprise. “The Mason Group is really helping my family get business?”
“Absolutely. They’ve sent quite a few deals your way. Maybe you haven’t been paying close attention to your family’s business, but honestly, the reason you’ve landed so many contracts lately is because of the Mason Group. Of course, your family is talented enough to handle it. Your products are top quality, and both your dad and your brother take the business seriously.”
Laura hadn’t realized her family’s sudden success was thanks to the Mason Group working behind the scenes.
Linda kept going. “Laura, Jesse’s a good guy. Sure, he’s friends with Ethan, but he’s even closer with Harold. In our circle, Harold is a real gentleman, and Jesse is his best friend. That says a lot about Jesse too.” She glanced at Isabella as she mentioned Harold, but Isabella seemed oblivious.
“Don’t let what happened with Isabella and Ethan make you doubt all men. Not everyone is like Ethan. There are still plenty of decent guys out there. My own brothers, for example.”
Linda’s voice softened. “Jesse’s helping your family because he wants the Charles Group to thrive. He’s trying to close the gap between you two, so you won’t feel pressured or insecure about accepting his feelings.”
Laura didn’t say anything. She knew she’d rejected Jesse partly because of Isabella’s tough marriage, and partly because she just felt like she and Jesse lived in completely different worlds. Her family owned a factory, and in a good year, they’d make a million, but compared to the Mason family, they were small potatoes.
