“Who says we don’t like your attitude?” Isabella shot back, grinning.
Linda burst out laughing. “But neither of you are men. If you were, and you liked me, I’d actually think about marrying one of you. Maybe both.”
Isabella and Laura just stared at her, floored by her boldness.
Linda glanced at her watch. “It’s getting late. I should head out. If you’re interested in that project, just swing by my office sometime and we’ll talk it over. Anyway, I’ll treat you both to dinner soon.”
She got up and left, just as quickly as she had appeared.
Isabella and Laura walked her downstairs and watched as she drove off. Laura let out a long sigh. “Now that’s what it looks like to live life on your own terms.”
“She can afford to,” Isabella said quietly. “People who don’t like her are just jealous, honestly.”
If Isabella hadn’t remembered how Linda had helped her in her previous life, she might never have gotten close to her.
“Let’s go to Linda’s office tomorrow. Barbara’s got a money-making project too. If we team up with these two boss women, we’ll be set. We’ll have all the good stuff and never have to worry about anyone messing with us. Linda will always look out for us.”
Laura’s eyes lit up like she could see piles of cash floating past. Their short dramas were finally starting to pay off, but nobody ever complained about having too much money. If they could make more with Barbara and Linda, they were definitely in.
“What about Linda’s brothers...”
“Don’t even think about it. They’re trouble. We should keep our distance.”
His social media was blowing up with unread messages. After skimming past his work chats, he found a flood of messages from Jordan.
Jordan had sent pictures. Natalie, eyes swollen and red from crying, her cheek puffy and bruised. There was even a video of Adelina scolding her.
After all the photos and the video, Jordan wrote, Ethan, Natalie’s mom really let her have it. Her parents have always spoiled her, but I’ve never seen them yell at her like this. Look at her face, you can even see the handprint. Her eyes are so swollen from crying. We’ve always protected her, but I’ve never seen her cry like this. It’s killing me.
Ethan scrolled through all the photos and watched the video. Adelina was giving Natalie a serious lecture. Natalie just stood there, taking it, too upset to say anything back.
He closed the app, gripping his phone so hard his knuckles turned white. He sat there in silence, not moving, for a long time.
Eventually, he started deleting all the photos Jordan had sent. He didn’t reply.
