“From now on, you have to take bodyguards with you every time you leave the house.”
Even if last night’s attack wasn’t meant for Isabella, being Mrs. Adams made her an easy target.
Isabella just nodded quietly.
“Stephanie, go home and get some rest. I’ll look after Isabella.” Cynthia’s voice was warm but firm.
Ethan agreed, gently encouraging his grandmother to head home.
Now that Isabella was awake, Stephanie finally let herself breathe. She’d been at the hospital most of the day, and it was starting to show in her eyes and the way she moved. She let out a soft sigh. Getting older really was unavoidable.
“All right, Isabella. Grandma’s going to go rest for a bit. I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
“Grandma, I’m really okay.”
“You keep saying that, but you’re hurt. I’ll bring you breakfast in the morning.”
Isabella saw that Stephanie wasn’t going to take no for an answer, so she just nodded. Once Stephanie left, Isabella’s aunt and uncle finally came up to her bedside.
“Ethan, you should go home and get some sleep too,” Cynthia said, her eyes full of concern. “You look exhausted, and those dark circles are getting worse. Isabella’s awake now, so you can take a break. Please, go rest.”
Ethan had barely slept for two days, dealing with the wedding gift issue. He only managed to catch up for a day before last night’s disaster happened.
“Mom, I’m not tired. I want to stay with Isabella.” Ethan wouldn’t budge. He wanted to ask her about the nightmare. The way she’d cried in her sleep had scared him.
