Natalie cursed silently. Isabella’s injuries weren’t even that bad. She could walk, eat, and sleep just fine. Why did she need someone hovering over her anyway?
Was Ethan really in love with Isabella now?
Out of the two of them, Ethan had chosen Isabella.
Natalie’s resentment for Isabella grew even deeper.
Jordan showed up fast.
As soon as he arrived, Ethan handed Natalie over to him. He walked them out of the hospital room, watched them disappear down the hall, and only then turned back inside.
Isabella was lying there, phone in hand, watching an episode of her viral short drama.
Ethan came over and leaned in to take a look at the screen. “The male lead’s not as good-looking as me,” he said.
“You’re good-looking, sure. Want to act? If you join my drama, I could make you the male lead. But I should warn you, the pay’s not great. You don’t have a fanbase yet. My current male lead is way more popular.”
Ethan had nothing to say to that.
“Did Natalie leave?” Isabella asked, even though she already knew exactly what was happening outside.
Jordan had shown up, come into the room, and left without even sparing her a glance. That was her stepbrother for you, cold and distant as always.
Isabella never really expected anything from Jordan.
Either way, their easy days were almost over.
Deborah, you better step up, Isabella thought to herself. If you don’t turn the Lane family upside down, my mom gave up her place for nothing.
“Isabella, I’m trying to let go of whatever I felt for Natalie. See? I’m not all tense about her like I used to be,” Ethan said, sitting down on the edge of her bed. He reached for her hand, and when she tried to pull away, he just held on tighter.
Isabella met his eyes, her voice steady and cold. “The person who hurt me the most was you, Ethan. From the very beginning, you were the one who brought me all this pain.”
Ethan’s face went pale, the shock settling in.
He’d figured it all out after talking to his grandmother about the dream.
He understood, but he still wanted to fight for her, for them.
But Isabella wasn’t giving him any more chances.
She wouldn’t forgive him.
Like his grandmother said, that impossible dream would always stand between them. Dream or not, past life or reality, it was a nightmare Isabella couldn’t escape. The tears she shed in her sleep while she was unconscious were all because she was trapped in that nightmare.
