After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 538

Stephanie nearly dropped the phone when she heard Ethan’s voice. “Ethan, what’s wrong? Did something happen? Don’t cry, honey. Just tell Grandma what’s going on, okay?”

Ethan almost never cried. Not since the day his grandpa passed away. But now, just hearing his grandma’s voice made the tears spill over. He wiped his eyes quickly. “I’m okay, Grandma. Nothing happened. I just… I’m feeling down and wanted to talk to you. I wanted to hear your voice.”

Stephanie could tell right away. “It’s about the divorce, isn’t it?” She let out a breath, relieved that it wasn’t anything worse.

Ethan’s voice was shaky. “I don’t want to get divorced, Grandma, but I have to let her go. It hurts so much. I really don’t know what to do. What am I supposed to do?”

Stephanie sighed. “There’s not much you can do now, Ethan. The fact that you’re hurting means your heart’s still in the right place. If you didn’t feel anything at all, then I’d be worried.”

Stephanie knew that if Ethan was this upset about the divorce, it meant he still had feelings for Isabella, even if it was just a little. With some time, he might actually let go of Natalie. There was hope for him yet. If he didn’t care at all, it would mean Natalie was still everything to him, and he’d probably never move on.

“For now, things with Isabella can’t be fixed. You promised her something, so just keep your word. Everything else can wait.”

Stephanie’s heart ached for him, but she knew there was nothing she could do to help.

“Make sure to compensate Isabella. You hurt her first, so don’t be unfair to her,” she reminded him gently.

“I already brought Isabella home. I’m about to draw up the divorce agreement. I think I’ll give her all my income from after we got married.”

He hadn’t signed a prenup. He’d always thought he and Isabella would be together forever. He couldn’t give her love, but he could give her everything else, even a kind of wealth most people would never see. That was why he never bothered with a prenup in the first place.

Now that they were divorcing, Isabella could have asked for a share of his assets. She didn’t, though. She just wanted out as soon as possible.

“You decide what you want to do. Everything in your name belongs to you. Handle it however you think is best.”
