Stephanie kept her distance.
“Go on, you’ve got things to do. I’m going to rest for a bit.”
She wasn’t feeling great either. After all the effort it took to get a granddaughter-in-law, now she was losing her. She let out a long sigh, hoping her other grandsons would learn from this and only marry for love, not for anything else.
Once the call ended, Ethan sat there for a while, lost in thought, before finally drafting the divorce agreement. He decided to let Isabella keep all the wedding gifts. On top of that, he would give her every cent he’d earned since they got married, plus the villa they’d been living in. The paperwork for the deed transfer was ready to go, anytime she wanted. And as if that wasn’t enough, he added three hundred million as compensation.
His grandmother had always said his money was his to do with as he pleased. If he had anything in abundance, it was money. His personal fortune was in the billions. Giving Isabella a few hundred million wouldn’t even make a dent.
Maybe, if he gave her enough, she’d at least consider giving him another chance someday.
When he finished the agreement, Ethan went over it again and again, making sure everything was just right before he finally printed it out. He stared at the single sheet for a long time, feeling torn. He knew that once he handed this paper to Isabella, things between them would truly be over.
He sat there, debating with himself for half an hour before he finally found the courage to head downstairs, his steps heavy.
Downstairs, Isabella was waiting for him. She had cut up a big bowl of fruit and was eating it, looking perfectly at ease. She hadn’t called out or rushed him, even though he’d been upstairs for ages. She probably thought he was busy working out how to split everything up.
But Isabella never wanted to fight over his money. She was worried that if she got greedy, things would get messy and the divorce might fall apart, which would just make things worse. The wedding gifts were enough for her.
Since she wasn’t planning on arguing, she was calm, even in a good mood, and could enjoy her fruit without a care.
They’d always slept in separate rooms. They had never really been a couple, so there was no chance of kids. She hadn’t made any demands about the money. She was willing to accept whatever he wanted to give, and she didn’t plan on fighting for more.
Still, Ethan was being incredibly generous, so much more than Jackson ever was. He was giving her all the wedding gifts, the villa, all of his post-marriage income, and an extra three hundred million on top of that.
Ethan sat down across from her, his dark eyes fixed on her face. He noticed the look of surprise and took it all in.
“If you’re not happy with this, just say so,” he told her quietly. “If the compensation isn’t enough, I can give you more. I know I hurt you. I used you. After the divorce, you’ll be labeled as a divorcee, and that’s my fault. The only way I can make it up to you is with money.”
Isabella looked up at him. She didn’t say anything at first—she just watched him, silent and steady.
