After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 543

“Let Isabella regret it. Who does she think she is? If it weren’t for my family, she never would’ve even met you, much less had the chance to marry you.”

“You gave her the title of Mrs. Adams and she didn’t even value it. She’ll regret it, just wait.”

Ethan’s voice was soft. “She’s not going to regret it. I’m the one who will.”

He paused for a second, then said, “It’s alright. Once we’re divorced, I’ll just chase after her again. I’ll win her back. I’ll make her fall for me all over again.”

Jordan stared at him. “You seriously plan on getting back together with her after the divorce?”

Ethan didn’t answer, but his silence said everything.

“Ethan, does it really have to be Isabella? There are so many women out there who like you. You could have your pick, and any one of them would be better than Isabella.”

“I don’t want anyone else. Besides Natalie, Isabella’s the only one I want. Would you give Natalie to me?”

Jordan let out a breath. “You know, I used to love Natalie too. You just beat me to confessing. I didn’t say anything because I cared about our friendship, all three of us. I didn’t want a girl to come between us.”

“The truth is, I married Isabella so I’d have a reason to see Natalie. That’s all.”

Ethan had never admitted this out loud before. Tonight was the first time he told Jordan that he’d once loved Natalie.

That truth had always felt like a thorn in Jordan’s side.

Sometimes, when he saw how much Natalie cared about Ethan, or the way she’d get jealous when Ethan was nice to Isabella, Jordan would feel a twist of jealousy himself. But he always kept it inside. He never got mad at Natalie. She was too important—she was the one person he could use to keep Ethan in check.

Jordan also knew that, back then, Natalie was waiting for Ethan to confess. After Jordan made his move, Ethan swallowed his own feelings and never said a word. To keep Jordan from getting jealous, Ethan even started avoiding Natalie for a while.

Natalie was used to being spoiled by both of them. She couldn’t stand Ethan’s distance. She went to see him behind Jordan’s back. Jordan never asked what they talked about. He didn’t need to know. In the end, Natalie chose him. That was all that mattered.

Maybe Natalie married him out of frustration, angry that Ethan didn’t fight for her. She always felt like she and Ethan couldn’t agree on anything, but she and Jordan? They just understood each other, right down to their bones. Both of them were hypocrites, through and through. Jordan knew exactly what kind of person he was. And he’d married a woman who was just like him.
