“They argued forever. Natalie called my dad and he just said that woman was bound to move in sooner or later. It’s infuriating.”
“I’m on a business trip, not coming back anytime soon. Natalie called, totally losing it. Can you go over to my place? Don’t let that woman push Natalie around.”
Ethan sighed. “If she dared to move in, your dad must have said yes. If he’s okay with it, there’s nothing you or Natalie can do.”
“This is your family’s mess. What am I supposed to do if I go over? I don’t even have a say.”
He was already on the verge of divorce and feeling awful. Jordan hadn’t even tried to comfort him, just wanted him to go argue with Natalie. What right did he have to kick Deborah out? It was the Lane family’s house, not his. Even if he and Isabella weren’t splitting up, he still had no business interfering in Jackson’s affairs.
“Ethan, how are you an outsider? You’re family. Technically, you’re still my brother-in-law. My dad and Cynthia haven’t even got their divorce papers yet and that woman already has the nerve to move in. She’s way out of line. I’m not backing down on this.”
Jordan was beyond disappointed in his dad. He knew Deborah wouldn’t have dared to show up with her suitcase if his dad hadn’t given the go-ahead. His dad claimed he was stuck at some work dinner and wouldn’t be home for a while, but Jordan knew he was probably lying. He was letting Deborah come over to stir things up with Natalie on purpose. He didn’t want the drama, so he just sent Deborah to deal with it.
Natalie said Deborah showed up alone, didn’t bring her son. She probably figured Natalie would try to stop her and didn’t want her precious boy to see her acting like that.
Jordan was stunned. “You and Isabella are actually getting divorced? For real? I thought you were just saying it.”
He didn’t even know how to feel. If Ethan and Isabella split, Isabella would lose her backer and stop acting so high and mighty in front of Natalie. But if Ethan was single again, would he try to go after Natalie?
“She really wants the divorce. I promised her we’d do it after she gets better and leaves the hospital. Honestly, I don’t want to split up. I wanted to spend my life with her.”
The pain in Ethan’s voice made Jordan frown. He pushed away his own doubts and said something to comfort him, even if he didn’t mean it. “Hey, if you get divorced, you get divorced. You’re a great guy. There’ll be a line of girls waiting for you as soon as you’re single.”
