After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 548

“Yeah, but don’t go for someone too smart,” Natalie warned, her eyes sharp. “The smart ones always want more. That kind of ambition could come back to bite us.”

“And you need to move faster on taking control of the company. Once you’ve got the power, it won’t matter how many women your dad brings home. None of that will touch what’s ours.”

Jordan let out a frustrated sigh. “My dad has everything locked down. Taking over isn’t going to be easy. Unless something happens to his health, I don’t see a way in.”

“I haven’t had a chance to slip that medicine into his food yet. Deborah keeps telling him I’m up to no good.”

Natalie gave a cold little laugh. “She just wants to stir things up between you and your dad.”

“That medicine is easy to hide in soup or coffee. He won’t taste a thing. You don’t need much, just a tiny bit every day. Over time, it’ll wear him down, maybe cause a stroke or mess with his mind.”

Jordan never wanted to kill his father. He just wanted him sick enough to be stuck in bed or losing his mind in a hospital. Then Jordan could step in and take over The Lane Group without question.

Even if Kevin, the illegitimate son, had a claim to the inheritance, once Jordan had control, would he really let Kevin walk away with anything?

If he could plot against his own father, Jordan had no problem dealing with Kevin.

“How about this,” Natalie suggested. “Give me half of the medicine. I’ll put a little in his food when he eats at home. When he’s at the office, you can handle his coffee.”

Jordan shook his head. “If I start making his coffee every day, he’ll get suspicious. The only way this works is if I can get his secretary on our side.”

Natalie rolled her eyes. “Ethan and I are childhood friends, too. And why do you think I keep him close? It’s always been for you. You’re the one who benefits.”

“I know, Natalie. I know you’re the best thing in my life. I’d never betray you.”

Natalie gave a sharp little laugh. “You better mean that. If I ever catch you cheating, just like your dad, I’ll make sure you regret it forever. I’ll make sure you never get to touch another woman again.”

Jackson had cheated, so who was to say Jordan wouldn’t? Like father, like son. Natalie wasn’t about to let her guard down.

“Relax. That won’t happen. Oh, and I have some news. Ethan and Isabella are actually getting divorced. They’re signing the papers tomorrow.”
