After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 556

“Ethan, Isabella.”

The call came from someone they both recognized instantly. Natalie.

Isabella glanced over as Natalie hurried toward them, a faintly mocking smile curling her lips. “Look who finally showed up. She’s been dying for us to get divorced.”

Ethan’s face darkened. He had no idea why Natalie was here or what she wanted. Then it hit him. Last night, he’d told Jordan about the divorce. Jordan must have let Natalie know.

Just last night, Jordan had asked him to help kick Deborah out for Natalie and he’d refused. The Lane family drama wasn’t his problem anymore, not unless Isabella was still involved.

Natalie reached them, a little out of breath. She fished a bottle of water from her bag and handed it to Ethan. “Can you open this for me?”

Without thinking, Ethan took the bottle and twisted the cap off. He’d done this for her and Jordan so many times before. He passed it back to her.

Natalie took a long drink before catching her breath. “Jordan told me you two were divorcing today, so I rushed over. I’m exhausted and thirsty, didn’t even have time to stop for a drink.”

She looked between them. “Are you really getting divorced? You haven’t even been married that long. Every couple argues, you know. Just talk it through. It doesn’t have to end like this.”

Inside, Natalie couldn’t be happier, but she did her best to look concerned and caring.

She turned to Isabella. “Think about what Ethan went through to marry you. All the pressure from his family, all the fighting. You two just got together and now, not even six months in, you want to split? Isn’t that unfair to him after everything he did for you?”

“Ethan’s not great at romance, sure. He doesn’t say sweet things, but he married you because he wanted to treat you right. Has he really been that bad since the wedding?”

“Natalie, here’s some honest advice. Divorce Jordan and marry Ethan yourself. Stop wanting everything at once.”

“Ethan is crazy about you. No one could ever take your place in his heart.”

“Isabella!” Ethan’s tone was sharp.

Natalie’s face fell, wounded. “Isabella, I’m really just trying to help. I want what’s best for you. How could you even say things like that about me and Ethan? Yes, we grew up together, but that’s all it is. We’re just childhood friends.”

“How am I supposed to look Jordan in the eye after this? What if he gets the wrong idea?”

Isabella just let out a dry laugh. As if Jordan didn’t already know Natalie liked having it both ways.
