The words Ethan said to Natalie made it clear he was finally ready to let go of any feelings he still had for her.
“Ethan. Ethan!” Natalie called out, her voice tight with frustration. He didn’t stop or even look back.
Fuming, Natalie could only hurry after him, but deep down she knew she had no right to stop Ethan from signing the villa over to Isabella.
As soon as she rushed out of the courthouse, Natalie spotted Harold. He had just arrived, pulling up in his usual Maybach, and stepped out with a bouquet of flowers in his arms.
People turned to watch as Harold appeared. Ethan’s expression changed instantly, a dark cloud passing over his face. He moved without thinking, slipping in front of Isabella as if to shield her from Harold.
Natalie was caught off guard, not sure what Harold was even doing there. He wasn’t the type to get married on a whim, and as far as she knew, he didn’t even have a girlfriend. So what was he doing at the courthouse with flowers?
“Harold, what’s going on?” Natalie called out, still out of breath. “Why are you here?”
Harold glanced at her, then looked over at Ethan. “So you brought Natalie with you for your divorce?”
“Natalie’s just here trying to talk us out of it,” Ethan said, his voice cold and flat. “Why are you here, Harold?”
Without another word, Harold walked right past Natalie and stopped in front of Ethan, giving him a gentle tug to move him aside. That put Harold and Isabella face to face.
He held out the bouquet to Isabella. She stared at him, completely thrown off. Harold just smiled, warm and easy.
He looked back at Isabella. “Barbara heard you and Ethan were getting divorced today. She ordered these for you and asked me to bring them. She wanted to congratulate you on being single again. She also said she’s skipping her plans tonight so you two can go out for drinks and really celebrate.”
Isabella suddenly understood, her confusion melting away. So it was Barbara’s idea all along. She took the bouquet from Harold and smiled. “That’s so thoughtful of her.”
Ethan rushed forward and all but shoved Harold aside, his words tumbling out fast. “Isabella, don’t believe a word of it. I’m sure these flowers are from him. He likes you. He’s been waiting for this. We’re not even officially divorced and he’s already chasing after you.”
“I’ve told you before, you need to stay away from him. He’s not as innocent as he looks.”
Then Ethan turned on Harold, jabbing a finger at him, anger spilling over. “Harold, I thought you were my friend. How could you go after my wife?”
